Very versatile motorized internet camera

C. Guarino, Amazon
24 July 2013
  • Summary: The D-Link DCS-5300G turned out to be a very versatile motorized internet camera. The D-Link software has improved greatly since the camera was first introduced. I have used this camera for years to remotely monitor my home, and it has performed admirably.

Do not buy - no after warranty repair available

DS, Amazon
7 October 2010
  • Summary: I have a DCS-6620G and DCS-5300W. They both developed minor problems shortly after the 1 year warranty ran out. The DCS-6620G ethernet port failed and the DCS-5300G pan capability failed.

D-Link DCS-5300W

Brian Haskell, Amazon
6 July 2010
  • Summary: This item is a discontinued model from D-Link and I knew it when I bought it. The seller has been helpful and D-Link email tech support has been helpful also, albeit rather slow in response. Yet, I have not been able to get it working wirelessly.

Not a Good Security Cam

W. D. Jack Moran, Amazon
1 October 2009
  • Summary: We purchased 4 of these cams for a retail security system, and had them professionally installed. They are not doing the job! The software is difficult to configure and to operate. The cams are slow to respond to PTZ commands. The audio is non-existant.

User Review

Michael S., Newegg
25 January 2009
  • Summary: Make sure to update the firmware to v1.06 since there is an issue with Microsoft Silverlight and IE. I had to the firmware from the D-Link Australian site.
  • Pros: When it works, it works well. The software that was available when it was new is/was awful. The latest software, D-ViewCam 2.03, runs great and was VERY easy to setup. Works so well now that I'm thinking about getting a few more D-Link cameras.
  • Cons: D-Link's support is horrible on their website. Firmware is not the latest on their site. Does not work with any other browser than IE.

I ignored the bad reviews...

Mr. L., Newegg
19 June 2008
  • Summary: After getting it connected, I configured the wireless functionality, because that was how I intended to use it. I set it up for WPA on my Linksys WRT-54G. It could not maintain a reliable connection to my wireless network.
  • Pros: Wide range of features compared to other cameras of this price.
  • Cons: Horribly inconsistent and unreliable. I purchased the 5300G, which includes wireless connectivity. I did a fair bit of research before purchasing, and noted that there are a lot of poor reviews out there for this camera. Wishful thinking won out. I figured that I was savvy enough and would have a...

If you are looking for quality video, look elsewhere

Anthony C., Newegg
17 April 2008
  • Summary: I use the DCS-6620G in a manufacturing facility and have had good luck with this unit. The DCS-6620G is also unresponsive at times. I have the camera attached to a wired 6 Gb DSL connection and at times you think you are on dial up.
  • Pros: Easy to setup. It works OK if you have very basic requirements.
  • Cons: The digital zoom is useless. Picture quality is marginal. Camera is frequently unresponsive. Cannot rotate 360 degrees.

poor sound, poor colors in image

Bruce C., Newegg
31 December 2007
  • Summary: I'll try to return this and get another DCS 5220 (even though it has only one way sound)
  • Pros: Price was good
  • Cons: I bought this to have the 2 way sound, but the built in microphone has a loud hum (no matter where I put the camera) and the color rendition is poor. Image sharpness is not as good as DCS-5220. I have two DCS 5220 and they both work very well.

Rock solid camera, questionable software

Da Vig "Da Vig", Amazon
9 December 2007
  • Summary: Hardware: 5 stars for the price The 5300W works great. Installed a week ago and have had no problems. Was easy to configure (even on with some custom network settings I have) and connect to network without problems.
