Product works but no customer support

03stanger, Amazon
25 October 2013
  • Summary: My first disappointment was when I found that instead of the eight screws needed to install the drives they only give you five. So I call the customer support number and left a message but of course they never returned my call. Strike One! The documentation provided is worthless, Strike two! You have to download the manual from the ZyXEL site. This is not a stand alone unit everything must be done through their somewhat clunky system, Strike Three.

Great for Home Storage, but poor for remote access.

Piotr.S, Amazon
26 May 2013
  • Summary: This device is fast and great for home use, if your just backing up pictures, movies, and music. That includes multiple computer back ups and such. Some of the apps on here for that purpose are good. If you are looking for something to access your data while your away from the house, then stay away from this. Let me start from the beginning, installation. Installation if done correctly, and not assuming anything should go pretty straight forward, mine did not.

Works, but not reliable

Gilbert Chan, Amazon
29 March 2013
  • Summary: I use this along with two WD Red 3tb drives. It works; however was a bit difficult to setup and transfer all my data. Now that I have it setup, it works; however not as I expect. I have to manually connect to my drives on each boot. It doesn't auto recognize on boot, I tried adding it to my boot scripts, but still doesn't always work. This may also be a Mac issue, however it makes the system less then desirable to use.

HD video streaming issues, no backup, no anti-virus

L. W. "Eager Student", Amazon
5 February 2013
  • Summary: Not too many people comment on the video streaming feature, but since it advertised itself as a media server I expected this to be the best product for this function. I was able to stream HD video quite well, UNLESS, I wanted/needed to fast forward through the video to either skip commercials or to get back to where I left off.

NSA325 - Satisfactory but somewhat disappointing

Steven Dobson, Amazon
15 November 2012
  • Summary: I've been using it for about 2 months now. Pros: It seems quite stable. - I have not had any freezes or other similar problems. - For the most part it performs as advirtized. - Data transfers over a gigabit network connection are at about 40-50 MB/Sec. It could be faster, but not bad. Cons: - The only built in application I have had needed to use is the FTP Uploadr. It is totally useless to me because it only uploads new files, not updated files.

Streaming with Reservations

Mitch Gant, Amazon
15 November 2012
  • Summary: I bought this product mostly for its streaming capabilities. I wanted to store iTunes, pictures, and my DVD collection and access them from a variety of devices from Roku to Android and iOS products. When it performs as intended it is brilliant serving all of these media options, via Twonky, to all my devices flawlessly. However, things don't always go as expected. First, I was pleasantly surprised with how small the device was.

CPU pegged, over heated and shutdown(still a 3 though)

D. Vbr, Amazon
18 April 2012
  • Summary: The price and the features for this device are outstanding. For the price it is superior to the other 2 leading manufacturer of a NAS with the same specs. I would of kept it and gave it a 4 if the CPU would not of had an issue. Pros: Software features work well, backups work great(from PC/MAC and to USB), device is fast, copy speeds were very acceptable over 1gbE, HD stream over wireless with no issues.

Awkward but with some gems

Mb Panero "stalinvlad", Amazon
25 March 2014
  • Summary: More noise than the single disk (fanless) (DEAD) Buffalo it replaces but obviously twice as reliable with its RAID 1 twin disks The SAMBA/NetBIOS thing is a little more security anal than the old Buff box But on the other hand this thing has "apps" as in bits of s/w you can add on if you want Among the big boys toys of a full LAMP stack there are more day to day useful things like the one that automaticly uploads your pictures to Flikr (now with 1TB of space...

Okay when you get used to the fiddley way it works.

R Grantham, Amazon
21 September 2013
  • Summary: The manual is expansive but not very clear, I had to trawl the net to work out some of the operations. I am a little disappointed as I basically wanted something as simple as an external usb hard drive but available on the network. On the positive side it is great for downloading torrents overnight as you don't have to leave the computer on, I haven't figured out how to ftp yet or how to get access without having to be constantly logging in.

Support is terrible and rude.

Michael, Amazon
28 June 2012
  • Summary: I got the item quickly and in good condition. However when I hit a road block and called support. After waiting for 40 minutes, someone answered and said they would call back later that day. They never did. Instead, 2 weeks later they sent me an email, asking for the details of my problem again. I wanted to talk to someone on the phone, that's why I spent £9 in call charges and waited for 40 minutes. I replied with the info needed, and they never got back to me.
