Summary: Slow. Numbingly slow. Painfully slow. Buggy. Network drives come and go on the network. Try to delete file and directories. It actually only deletes some of the target objects! Amazing. Several other things don't work. The UI is horrid. Truly seems like a Beta product. Sure wish I had returned it early, when I could have done so. Thinking that I would learn how to make it work better, tune it, etc. Ferget it! Nothing but heartburn. I've had this for over a year.

Summary: I bought this as a media server and in fairness it does work flawlessly for that purpose but...... Nearly every time when adding new files it doesn't index itself so you need to force a database rebuild, the problem is that it then gets its knickers in a twist, falls over when indexing and locks up. I've only managed to get 100GB of files on it so far and honestly I've had enough of it. I'm now going to get an HP micro server because this thing isn't fit for purpose.
Summary: Honestly I have not used it much so cannot say much about the porformance. It does seems ok for one of my purposes: file sharing in my home. but One other thing I got very frustrated: I tried to set up a USB printer on it but never find a place to have the driver installed. It only has a web admin page where for printer server only 3 options: rename it, delete it, cancel jobs. But where to have the driver installed/updated? Tried tech support.
Summary: The ZyXEL NSA221 media server is not what I was expecting. When I purchased this product, I thought it would be easy to transfer files from my desktop computer and store them on the NSA221 to share from a central location. I started by copying my music collection (around 500gb) and since then, this media server's CPU has been running at 100% 24/7 (for 2 months).
Summary: The Zyxel NSA221 is a buggy, slow responding media server which has caused lockups on 2 of my computers on more than several occasions. The available packages for use i.e. WordPress, are woefully outdated and there seems to be nothing on the horizon. Not good when you consider possible security issues as well as being unable to utilize the latest software advances. When adding MP3 media, the unit needs to build a 'database' to store and manage the data.
Summary: I needed to replace the Netgear STORA which stopped working after just a year of use. I spent over 30 hrs trying to get this box to broadcast files to media servers but to no avail, i called tech support they were clueless and suggested i reformat and reset, did this and nothing changed. Files larger than MP3 will simply not show up, backups did go on but don't know how reliable they were.
Summary: Not a good choice. I bought two new Western Digital Green hard drives, tested each in an external USB drive carriage, then set them up in the ZyXEL NSA221 under Raid 1 to use as a lite duty, family data server. What a disappointment this unit was. The unit is soooo incredibly slow I kept thinking I must be doing something wrong. To copy 100 MB to the NSA221 took 16 minutes. Even as a file server, the deliver time was just awful.
