Slow on network

Jian W., Newegg
9 October 2013
  • Summary: can only reach 10-14MB/s, a pc on my network can reach 40 to 90MB/s when write/read file over the Gigabit network/CAT6 cable.
  • Pros: Inexpensive and feature rich
  • Cons: Has lot of nice feature though I seldom use.

Dead after 18 Months

Zachary S., Newegg
18 August 2012
  • Summary: After 18 months of use I can no longer access the web interface. This will be the last ZyXel product I purchase, might as well spend the money and get a Buffalo or WD device, the DLNA features of this worked but very limited capabilities. Now I have to attempt to recover the data from the drive.
  • Pros: Simple to setup, basically plug and play
  • Cons: After about 6 months it started showing SMART errors on my drive. Scans of the drive with another machine showed the drive was fine. Put it back into the system and it worked fine, a few months later, SMART errors returned.

Nice! Will be ordering more.

Morgan S., Newegg
7 September 2011
  • Summary: Using a 500gb Western Digital
  • Pros: This Device is sleek and small, works as it should. Setup is super easy (Windows Vista Ultimate x64) I like it. Im running cifs protocol cameras saving content to it and it works great! plus using it as a file server, cpu load, mem usage and temp all seem pretty good. Web user interface is very n...
  • Cons: One bad thing tho, only -1 egg but lookout. The sata adapter is flimsy, first one I got wasn't soldered down good enough and popped off had to RMA but thanks to newegg they sent me a shipping label. Basically you need to be very careful.

Do Not Buy

m w., Newegg
7 July 2011
  • Summary: Would give it zero eggs if possible.
  • Pros: None!
  • Cons: Shipped from factory with firmware that is incompatible with Win 7 64 bit OS. Spoke with Zyzel Tech Support and it is known issue with no fix in sight after 3weeks. Tech sypport reccomeded that I use a Win XP machine to get it to work - lol. Very poor planning Zyxel. Will not buy another product ...

RUN AWAY!!!!

Anthony K., Newegg
6 July 2011
  • Pros: It would be awesome if it worked!
  • Cons: I received the item on Monday. I was able to configure everything pretty easily and was very happy. I woke up Monday morning and the device said it had a bad hard drive. I ran a test on the drive and sure enough it was bad. I replaced the drive and tried to upload the firmware to get things going...

Decent NAS

Nicholas R., Newegg
18 February 2011
  • Summary: The main reason that I got this was because I wanted to access my files and my printers from anywhere on the network but I didn't want the power cost of having a computer always on. It's not as great as a full featured server but it is very good for light use.
  • Pros: * Automatic recycle bin puts any files that a user remote deletes into a recycle folder in that share--works just like Recycle Bin on Windows * Has a full featured MySQL, PHP webserver for either Internet or Intranet use (excellent for light use) * Will auto update remote sites (like FTP sites an...
  • Cons: I have not experienced the problem with speed that other reviewers have mentioned but I have mine on a 100 Mbps network and often use it over wireless G. Price can be a bit much. I wouldn't pay more than $100 unless you absolute wanted a versatile NAS with low power consumption instead of a more ...

Way too slow

Andrew W., Newegg
17 September 2010
  • Summary: Get what you pay for I guess.
  • Pros: Supports both Windows CIFS/SMB and Linux NFS. Inexpensive.
  • Cons: Way too slow. Could only get 10MBps on a Gigabit LAN. CPU usage on the NSA210 was pegged at 100% while trying to transfer. I had installed a WD 2TB WD20EARS drive in it. I decided to keep the WD drive, but return the NSA210. Perhaps some firmware update down the road may fix this, but until then,...

  • Pros: Does everything what promised.
  • Cons: Is a little bit on the slow side.

No-nonsense compact network storage

kfong99, shopping.com
12 July 2010
  • Summary: Recommended as a less inexpensive and more compact alternative to its competitors. Uses less energy than most other NASs in its class.
  • Pros: Compact and inexpensive alternative to its competition.  Simple design and setup.  Energy saving.
  • Cons: Technical Support may be weak and slow.

Awesome NAS

Anonymous, Newegg
30 June 2010
  • Summary: Definitely worth the purchase if you have multiple devices trying to access the same documents/media.
  • Pros: This thing works like a champ. I have had it for about 6 months now and have not had to reset it once. I do a lot of large transfers from my computer through wired and wireless connections. I have a Netgear WGR614 router and get about 1.5 mBps when on wireless transfer and about 8 mBps while on w...
  • Cons: Takes approximately 5 seconds for the enclosure to realize you are trying to access it and turn on the disk. Not really a con just a thought and it only takes this long when it has gone into stand by mode. Otherwise connects instantly. Works with my Xbox 360 as a media server. However, it is extr...
