Definitely not worth the effort and doesn't deliver

Summary: After a year of use I'd say this purchase was a total waste of money. Great idea, abysmal execution. If you are considering purchase, I'd suggest trying something else. Dropbox is so much better and easier than this piece of feces (if you want web access) or a simple, cheap external like an OWC Mercury Elite Pro are less hassle and work as advertised. Why do I think it's a waste?
Summary: Sorry, I meant slower than my ex-wife's dead cat. Do yourself a favor, and read the reviews of how horribly slow this monstrosity is. Read every one of them and believe them thoroughly, because they're all true. Then, read WD's exceptionally pathetic, inadequate, irrelevant response to almost every negative review, where they say to update the firmware. You see it over and over and over, here and in their support forums... "Update the firmware...
Summary: WD are well known for excellent Hard Drives. However, apparently no so much for their so called NAS system (EX4). The performance on the WD EX4 is extremely poor, the admin page keeps bugging out. Additionally, 802.3ad dual link aggregation was not useful at all, given the poor hardware bottlenecks when it comes to transfer speeds.
Summary: Looks like high quality piece of equipment. Hard disks slide into bays tightly. Like closing a car door on a BMW. So far, up 100% of the time with no issues. "Dashboard" gives admin good control over setup and monitoring. Only thing I'm not completely clear on is speed. Configured to Raid 0 it still has to pass my speed test. Just haven't done it yet.
Summary: I am an IT professional. I have come to the conclusion that this unit is suited for use by only one user. It does not have a processor powerful for handling more than a single user even though it is marketed for groups. It has lots of software features. The processor is not powerful to handle all these features at the same time. Even for a single user it is so slooowww it may not even be useable for one. Many, many, many others have made the same observation.
Summary: I am disappointed with this NAS. I have to keep rebooting it at least twice a week in order to get a decent response from it. When I log on to the admin site, the cpu is pegged at 100%. A reboot fixes the cpu issue. Accessing files is not as fast from our windows 8.1 computers. Before buying this, shop around and read all the reviews. It is time for me to call WD to complain.
Summary: People who say it's slow are either crazy, or set it up wrong. It's blazing fast and... really just incredible. So why 3 stars? Very simple really. Great hardware, bad software. Not really even comparable to the capabilities of a normal cloud service like Dropbox.
