Excerpt: First NAS device. Wanted something basic, easy to use, with some "pro" features. This seems to fit the bill. Was easy to setup and get connected to. RAID was simple to configure. PC and device software works pretty well. You can't stream movies directly to Apple TV but you can do so through AirPlay from your IPad/IPhone (I watch most films directly on IPad anyway). Works well as a Windows/Time Machine backup device. Looking to use iSCSI features later.
Summary: I found WD My Clound EX2 and was happy because I bought this was a great idea and a perfect solution. I found the product has several problems that makes this product useless. The problem is the following. The unit CPU work 24/7 at 100% because it has issues with a process name "Convert" that tries to create thumbs to media files. The problem I´m experimenting it not an isolated case, you can find in WD Community lots of people having the same problem.
Cons: Not been able to access the unit, when you have access the unit crashes and need to be restart
Summary: Great Nas with some great features, but better than writing is to watch this WD Nas in Action and here are a series of detailed video reviews about the WD EX 2 1- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC0tgC-0APE 2- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU8qFSmd4is 3- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6TqavpvaEA 4- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3nR7blHf0E 5- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ol2ffaH4Ghw 6- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVJPGyijGFw Hope it helps on your decision.
Summary: This NAS has so many features! Great in my home network, stream from this NAS to my tv etc with no lag/buffering at all. Disappointed a little with the 2x available USB 3 ports, copying and pasting is not at USB 3 speed. All together I am very pleased with this NAS.
Summary: Really pleased with this NAS drive. It's pretty much plug and play if you want to use it as standard storage. Set up shares with customised access in minutes. The drive produces almost no noise, handy if you are installing it next to your workstation. Once set up, you can forget about it. You can even switch the indicator lights off. A great product.
Summary: My first NAS so impossible to compare to others however so far the experience has been positive. I have it set up as JBOD because I have other HDD with the same data on them. It has bells and whistles that I haven't used , my only criticism is with the power off function. You cant set it On-Off Then On-Off in the same 24 hour period.
Summary: yes this working great.....do a lot of videos...and load them on youtube....but with this baby i can stream them to my tv in the quality i took them in....also there is 100 % backup for all my stuff.....
Summary: I am just a normal user and I found this product easy to set up, it works very well and I would recommend it. However I was disappointed about the advertising which I think is misleading, if I buy a 6TB hard drive that is more or less what I get, the EX2 is advertised as 6TB but all your getting is 3TB of storage. The fact that it is 2 hard drives swopping data each at 3TB WD have called it a 6TB machine which dos'nt help those who thinkj they are getting 6TB of storage.
