Great Device

Mark H., Newegg
6 August 2013
  • Pros: This is an excellent NAS which performs storage functions beautifully! If you want something cheap that can keep large amounts of data safe or to pump videos out to TVs (I use WD TV Live players), then this device is for you!
  • Cons: Thecus apps are pretty bad. For example, I have multiple brands of IP cameras. Neither myself nor my other tech buddy could get them working with the Thecus app. They did however pull right up on both the Synology DS411Slim and Synology DS2413. If I were to compare Synology apps to Thecus, I woul...

Great NAS

Ethan S., Newegg
8 January 2011
  • Summary: At first I was annoyed by how bright the front display is but if the escape button on the front is held down then it turns the display off. I look forward to using this NAS for years to come for my backup images and other files.
  • Pros: Fast, quiet and simple - just works. Working with WindowsXP, Mac OS X (AFP and SMB), and FreeBSD. I have (7) 2TB drives installed in a RAID6 with XFS and a iSCSI target. It's based on Linux so there are 3rd party modules that can be installed (SSHD and a few others) - though this isn't supported ...
  • Cons: The (English) manuals aren't as in depth or as clear as I would like but that's really not a big issue for me.

  • Pros: quite, simple, reliable. have had running all 7 bays with 2tb drives in raid 5 for 3 months, no problems. works well with my win 7 ultimate 64 bit system as well as vista 32 bit
  • Cons: its a inch and a half to tall to fit where i wanted to go, not a bad thing- just something to put in the con

Great NAS (7 disks!)

Corey G., Newegg
8 September 2010
  • Pros: 7 disks!!! Supports NFS/CIFS (although I haven't tested CIFS). Works very well. It recovers from power outages extremely fast. Does some checking in the background so back up in a minute or so (I'm using XFS for the filesystem). When I grew it from 5 2TB drives to 7, the grow fs option worked gre...
  • Cons: Seems to have about a 15 second delay when doing an NFS mount. It seems to be some type of timeout, but I haven't called support or tried to track it down yet.

Love it

Dean Collins, Amazon
28 July 2010
  • Summary: Love it, been running over 18 months without a hiccup. I'd probably spend the extra cash for the core 2 duo version if it was a little cheaper but for sme/home use i dont think it makes a difference. Been rock solid and never caused an issue (running 7 x 1.5tb drives). Cant reccommend it enough.

Read HDD Compatability List

Anonymous, Newegg
27 October 2009
  • Summary: The comment about WD drives in this NAS is suspect, simply because NO 2TB WD drives have EVER been on the Thecus 7700 compatibility list. The only 2TB drive fully 'confirmed' is the Seagate LP, although most vendors bundling this unit with 2TB drives are using the Hitachi (currently about to be...
  • Pros: Multiple modes, from NAS to iSCSI. Largest drive bay count in the price range, allowing 10TB usable under RAID6 w/ 2TB drives. Can be part of a 'stack set' with other Thecus units (including another 7700 to provide a 20TB data sink!)
  • Cons: User Manual a little hazy in spots, but Thecus support is quick.
