Nice equipment

Mark M., Newegg
26 June 2012
  • Summary: I don't know what other user experience is, but the experience with the tech support is quite pleasant. Well, just my two cents.
  • Pros: Fast transfer speed with GB interface. Unit has worked fine for quite some time and no major issues, most likely with disk quality. For office that need backup space and some storage as iscsi target, this unit is easy to setup.
  • Cons: User documentation is not clear and updated. We have to contact tech support for clarification. HDD compatibility list update is slow and even outdated.

Great Product

  • Summary: I have 2 of these, running RAID1+1spare, connected to 2 of my X-Serves of GIG Ethernet ports direct, so I can locate drive bays approx <300' away (DR plan smash and grab in a location we can easily get to if we cant get to server room).
  • Pros: 7 Bay's, Multiple interface connections, GUI interface win, Reasonable support, massive protocol support.
  • Cons: Only con I can give is if you have the old firmware, there were a few issues. Make sure you check for latest firmware. I had a few drives (WD) that showed as degraded or failed in the raid, not sure if it was the old firmware or not, as after reformat, the drives appeared fine. The latest Firmwar...

Great value: 4.5 stars

Chuck D., Newegg

  • Summary: My setup: 7 Hitachi HD32000 IDK/7K running RAID6 with ZFS format. I like ZFS because I can use it pretty much right away while it's still building the drives. Not so with EXT3, I had to wait like 12 hours for the format/build to complete before I was able to use it.
  • Pros: Great price for a 7-port NAS. All metal construction, quality case, and good for ventilation. Not as noisy as people say. It's about the same noise level as a PC. Very quiet when idled. Oh of course if you have fast and loud drives, you will hear it. I have 7 Hitachi HD32000 IDK/7K (which is just...
  • Cons: WARNING: check HD compatibility list first. I wished they had this flashing all over their site, it would have saved me a lot of head aches and re-stocking fee to return incompatible HDs. Yes, like most people say, the documentation is bare bones. Generally it doesn't offer much in depth explanat...

Excellent performance from this little NAS

Robert Nederhorst "throbby throb", Amazon

  • Summary: I bought this to deal with visual effects data. That means i have 5 machines pulling hundreds of megabytes off of this at once. The Thecus has performed really well, topping out around 100mbyte/sec from ethernet.
