Conclusion: As the first seven-bay NAS solution to grace our labs, we don't yet have a direct competitor to which it can be fairly compared. Nonetheless, our initial impressions are good. Despite raising storage capacity with a massive seven drive bays, the N7700 performs admirably in our test suite and is able to hold its own when compared to lesser five-bay units.
Summary: Thecus has been left behind in the last year, with the likes of QNAP and Synology taking over at the bleeding edge. But if you don't mind a bit of a rough diamond and you're just after huge storage at a good price, Thecus offers the product to beat.
Pros: Massive amounts of storage for a competitive price, Great performance, Chunky processor and RAM
Cons: A little noisy, Interface rework still looks old, isn't finished, Still defaults to manual IP, not DHCP, Same old chassis as the N7700, Competitors offer greater depth of features
