Pros: 5 bays price hdmi lcd display
Cons: door latch arrived broken hd's wont spin down unit wont sleep fan is extremely loud thecus support is horrible
Summary: Don't be fooled by the cool features of this box. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!
Pros: RAID easy to setup. Cool features although was very dissatisfied with the write speed. Seems like a hit or miss depending on what post on the Internet you see.
Cons: GUI has and old feeling. Write speed is slow, there are tons of issues like these within their support site. Updated the firmware to see if that would resolve the issue and it did not. Usually if you have a Gig connection, it goes faster that 22MB/s. Returned this product to get a credit back on my account. I was to run VMWare Machines on this thing and I dont feel as though I should wait forever to create a machine, so I decided to return it today!
Summary: This device looks good on paper but doesn't function as advertised. It says it integrates with Windows Active Directory but its not reliable. If the device isn't connected to port 1 it will lose connection to Active Directory. Setting folder permissions with Windows ACL doesn't work. So if you are looking to secure files for Windows users stay away from this device.
Pros: Hardware is rock solid. There aren't many NAS's you can buy on the market for this price with the hardware that this unit has.
Cons: Hardware is nothing if the software is garbage! Support is pretty much non existent! Web UI is buggy! Every change in the web UI causes a reboot, which means downtime!
Cons: NAS keeps getting stuck at self testing when booted. Search google you will see many people are having the same issue. Support is not helpful and takes a full day to respond. Each they offer a meaningless troubleshooting suggestion.
Summary: Replaced this unit with a Synology DS1512+ and have been extremely happy with it. I won't go back to Thecus due to this bad experience.
Pros: 5-bay storage for a cheap price, reasonably full feature set.
Cons: Dead fan out of the box, defective LCD panel, cheap feel, GUI looks like something out of the 1990s, M-F 9-5 support only. Out of the box, it reported a fan failure, plus the LCD had a defective line of pixels. GUI looks like something out of the 1990s. My support issue was something that was "escalated", though normal support is only M-F 9A-5P PST.
