Review of Thecus N2560 Intelligent NAS

Testfreaks blog
2 June 2014
  • Conclusion: The Thecus N2560 is certainly a very capable and feature rich NAS box and it’s one that’s very affordable as it has an attractive price point. The setup and installation is simple, just a few clicks and you should be up and running, really it is a rather painless experience. The N2560 allows you to quickly and easily install and uninstall apps so you can pick and chose those apps that you need or want which will save on system resources.
  • Pros: HDMI output, Plenty of features, Quiet, Decent speeds, Looks nice, Plenty of media options, Simple setup
  • Cons: No 2.5″ drive support, Uses rails for hard drives

  • Conclusion: As I write this final page for the Thecus N2560, there are a few things that come to mind. First of all, the software, ThecusOS 6, can be described with a word I have already used before: Functional. The overall GUI is not the prettiest of the bunch with a very plain but consistent theme. While I will not award it anything for the design, using the embedded operating system is intuitive and easy to use.

Thecus N2560

PC Magazine
19 January 2014
  • Conclusion: While the specs are impressive on paper, and the unit does turn in a speedy Write performance, we can't recommend this NAS. It looks cheap and with performance that generally matches its appearance, despite a price point that rivals that of more robust and better-developed NASes. It gets a half a star bump for its Intel Atom processor and 2GB of RAM.
  • Pros: Uncluttered UI. Fast Write speed. Data remained intact after drive failure and recovery.
  • Cons: Messy RAID volume creation. Software utility constantly froze. UI did not reflect correct volume state after RAID recovery. Expensive, given its cheap chassis parts.

Thecus N2560: Intel's EvanSport NAS Platform Review

25 November 2013
  • Conclusion: The Thecus N2560 is a 2-bay NAS, and most users are going to use it in a RAID-1 configuration. Hence, we performed all our expansion / rebuild testing as well as power consumption evaluation with the unit configured in RAID-1. The disks used for benchmarking (Western Digital WD4000FYYZ) were also used in this section. The table below presents the average power consumption of the unit as well as time taken for various RAID-related activities.

Thecus N2560

  • Conclusion: We feel like we've been here before with Thecus. As is so often the case with the company's NAS solutions, the N2560 offers capable hardware driven by software that feels a little rough around the edges. Intel's latest-generation Atom SoCs appear to be a good fit for home NAS solutions and with a helping hand from 2GB of DDR3 memory, the 1.6GHz dual-core chip has enabled Thecus to offer strong overall performance allied with respectable power-draw numbers.

Thecus N2560 Review

27 November 2013
  • Conclusion: Having mostly reviewed NAS products from another vendor it’s a breath of fresh air spending time with another brand. Thecus is under 10 years old and yet they have demonstrated they are force to be reckoned with. On the hardware side, the N2560 is presented in a professional enclosure which looks and feels great.
  • Pros: + Pleasing to the eye, + Great hardware specification, + Solid performance, + Flexible feature-set, + HDMI port, + Easy to set up

Test: Thecus N2560 - Das Wohnzimmer-NAS

27 October 2013
