Summary: This NAS is definitely one of the cheaper ones out there. It does what its supposed to and it has a nice set of functionality that really comes in handy. i don't believe you'll find much better for this price. That being said i had two main point that were a turn off for me.
Summary: Sent emails with no answer ,phone on hold forever. The unit is not recognized by the system or the software using the approved drives. Have units by Sans Digital, Zyxel and Buffalo and never had a problem. My conclusion is that Thecus makes junk
Summary: The day i got this piece of garbage i took it out of the box carefully and set it up on a shelf wear it sat for 3 week's while i had to research, find and finally receive via mail the same way 2 3TB hard drives. I read the instruction's although its in a technical speak only a geek would understand.
Summary: Needed a network drive that allow user controls and private storage, and this one fits the bill nicely; but poorly written instructions and a clunkly interface made setup a bit of hunt and peck.
Summary: We have roughly 2 dozen Thecus units deployed, ranging from these SOHO units all the way up to the high-end rackmount units. Of that #, we have about 6 of these out in the field. No reliability issues, decent price-point performance. People potty-mouth this device for missing features or speed.
Pros: - Very inexpensive - Metal Chassis, solid construction - Small footprint - Easy-to-use interface, consistent with the Thecus family
Cons: - Slow performance - Interface is missing the System Monitor module of the other Thecus firmwares (but then again, this is a LOT cheaper) - Only 256 mb RAM (but you can increase this easily with laptop memory) - No ZFS file system support (but seriously, at this price-point who should expect it?)...
Summary: I am still testing and evaluating this chassis as an alternative to the Synology DiskStation DS212j (also available here on Amazon for an excellent price). Just a few quick observations/comparisons with the Synology offering: 1. The browser management interface is slow to respond.
Summary: After months of service, backups started failing. N2200 reported "You don't have any RAID system". No other errors and shares not availible. Support remote logged in and fixed it. They called it a 1 time RAID recovery for free. I call it a device error that should be fixed for free.
Summary: It does what it says on the side of the box. This is a cheap 2 drive solution with enough features to meet most basic requirements. I've been able to install a couple old 750GB Seagate drives that I already had, this was one of the reasons for selecting a cheap solution.
