Sweet little thing!

Piotr F., Newegg
26 March 2010
  • Summary: I bought it to use it as a storage/network mp3/video storage box. The performance is great -- on a 100 mpbs lan I can run 3 streams and the box is keeping up with the load! I did run into a problem when troubleshooting a drive -- I wish the built in OS had better disk management utils.
  • Pros: Size, speed, power consumption, concept... overall a great little item!
  • Cons: Limited disk management software, but then again, not different from any other home NAS.

Very nice portable NAS

Anonymous, Newegg
21 November 2009
  • Summary: According to Thecus this only supports 9.5mm drives, but the drive carriers have extra clearance that *MIGHT* handle 12mm drives, but have not had an opportunity to test. Packaging from thecus was unusually polished - it was like unpacking a smartphone or an ipod.
  • Pros: I often need a stable and predictable piece of networked storage when I'm doing maintenance at clients, and this seems to be it. - Every bit as small as you think it is. - Not in the NewEgg photos, but the one that I got included a base stand which has a builtin fan that is powered from the NAS i...
  • Cons: - Can run a bit hot under load. - Minor annoyance to Mac / Linux people: It seems to require the windows utility for initial setup. Once past this, it is web manageable and functions as expected and the windows disk is no longer needed. (Might be required for further firmware updates?)

  • Summary: It looked so good when I unpacked it, but it was almost impossible to understand the instructions on how to install and run it. When I eventually figured it out, it was clear the unit was defective.
  • Pros: Very small package Low power consumption
  • Cons: Very poorly written installation instructions Very poorly written manual Poor setup software Cryptic messages

Pleased with Perfornamce/Size

Thomas S., Newegg
30 May 2009
  • Summary: 500GB of storage is a very small package - much easier than sharing out a removable hard drive on a laptop (works OK until the laptop walks away). Easy for a non-techie to set-up and use. Web interface makes configuration easy.
  • Pros: I'm pleased with the performance for such a small device. It satisfies the need for a small server to take on the road. I use synchronization software to update everything when I get back to the office. It performs admirably with small workgroups offsite.
  • Cons: None.
