Summary: Do not waste your money on this. If it works, it doesn't work properly. On Xbox the device is picked up, complete with folders, but none of the media actually shows. Then, it needs restarting almost every day. To top it off, the Synology support forums are a wasteland.
Summary: Big Job for low price !!!!
Summary: Great piece of kit for a low end NAS solution. I primarily use the device to stream movies to my WDTV Live and PS3. The WDTV works flawlessly, however the PS3 has trouble playing files in mkv format. I also purchased a USB sound card for a few quid and have run the line out to the speaker system in the house. Using the DS Audio mobile app you can control whats being played from your phone which is great.
Summary: Absolutely appalling product. After overthinking my purchase decision for a NAS I ignored much of the negative commentary I had read about this little box of woes. Having spent over a week trying to make the best of a bad job I've decided to give-up and return to Amazon. The built-in iTunes server is erratic and omits much of my music library.
Summary: Very happy with it. Unless I had to return first unit I received due it's malfunction (continious disconnections from the network even having updated the firmware), second one I got from Amazon (really good customer service) fullfills my expectancies completely. Simple and quiet.
Summary: I usually keep all my music and films on my main PC and use LAN cables to distribute it around the house. This was working well but meant that the main PC had to be kept on all the time. I thought that the USB Station 2 would enable me to get around this. Unfortunately, there were a couple of problems. I already had a couple of 1TB hard drives formatted to NTFS and I believed that they were compatible with the unit.
Summary: I returned this item. I was very excited about converting existing hard drives to NAS and being able to back up and stream media around the flat. Unfortunately, although the unit was neat and the software great, it just isn't suited to working with Macs. I couldn't get Time Machine working over wireless, printer sharing only works with postscript printers natively through OS X (although you could use CUPS - which was a nightmare trying to set up).
Summary: Very disappointed to find that when this item arrived it only came with a European (two-pin) power plug! Is it really to much to ask that ordering from the UK amazon to a UK address that I get an appliance that will work out of the box? I can't even connect it with an adaptor to the UK mains, as the power-plug is cheap and has thin plastic prongs except for the very ends of them so they wobble around inside the adapters I've tried it with and fail to make contact to...
