Simply The Best NAS Devices Available

Rick, Amazon
27 November 2013
  • Summary: This is the second Synology storage device I've purchased and I'm still using the first one. I did a lot of research before buying the first one and I definitely made the right choice.

So far so good

DK, Amazon
2 July 2013
  • Summary: I work in a 25 user office and we needed more storage but I didn't just want to buy something that added storage I wanted something that would add more usability. So far this unit has been very good for storage shares which we use for Windows clients and very good with WedDAV over HTTPS for...

The best small office NAS

Gene Shablygin, Amazon
27 May 2013
  • Summary: It is my second RS2212+ and fifth Synology NAS RAID. So far, it is the best, most manageable, reliable and easy to use network storage. All models, from small 4-disk to large 10-disc devices use the same OS, based on busybox linux distribution.

Great product. Simple to use

BM, Amazon
5 May 2013
  • Summary: I use this Rackstation with 3TB drives. Although it doesn't have the throughput it advertises, it is still VERY simple to use and quite fast. I am backing up 5 mac computers using time machine and 10 PC machines. Recovery of data is quick and it is a great supplement to off-site backup.

Wish I had the time and need to use more of the features

Larry P., Newegg
18 April 2013
  • Summary: I have used several Synology NAS products over the years in client deployments. Use cases ranged mostly to backup storage for image and Veeam backups. It is great to finally have one for my own infrastructure.
  • Pros: I have had this unit in operation for a few months now. It has run flawlessly during that time. I filled it with 3 TB Western Digital WD3000FYYZ drives and set them up in a RAID 6. The NAS is easy to set up. Active Directory integration was a breeze unlike some of the NAS devices I have used over...
  • Cons: I wish I had paid more attention and purchased the RP model with redundant power supplies. Certainly not a short coming of the device though!

Second time was the charm!

ROBERT S., Newegg
6 February 2013
  • Summary: Even with the WD Green HDDs, I experimented with using it as an NFS-mounted data-store for ESXi 5.1. It worked pretty well. I wasn't running any high-performance guests and I didn't have more than a few guests running on it at a time so I can't speak for how well it would work for a larger VMware...
  • Pros: It works and right away you've got to be excited about that! The one I sent back was not working out and this one proves it was the unit and not the user.
  • Cons: Can still be a little clunky at times but for what I'm using it for (backup location for Zmanda/Amanda backup software), it works just fine. Moreover, I have it full of 2-TB Western Digital Green HDDs so I'm sure I could bump up the performance if I bumped up to better drives - 7200 RPM drives sh...

I hope I got a bad unit!

ROBERT S., Newegg
23 October 2012
  • Summary: Like I've said, I've used Synology products before and I like their stuff - so long as it works. This unit has been nothing but trouble and their support has less than responsive. I'm just glad it's not in production yet. I'll wait for my RMA replacement in hopes that it'll be in better shape.
  • Pros: Cheap storage with RAID capabilities. Takes standard HDDs or SSDs.
  • Cons: This thing was messed up from the start. I hope I got a bad unit and that's the only reason. I've since submitted an RMA for a replacement unit. I've set up several other Synology devices and all have been very nice and easy to work with. This one timed out during the setup process. It times out ...
