Nice NAS

Lord Vader, Amazon
2 April 2013
  • Summary: Bought this for a college class that I teach. Students use it for clustering VMware and for storage for backups. Connects to ESXi 5+ just fine using iSCSI, and the ability to trunk the two ethernet ports makes for acceptable speed in a learning environment. May be a little slow in production, but works great for what I needed it for.

Great NAS with surprisingly useful provided/available plugins for media sharing/distribution.

  • Summary: Amazing product, way better than expected. The rackmount ears have removable handles in case you want to use those fancy slide out rails the kids are so fond of these days. I took em off and permanently affixed mine to the rack cabinet like god intended. One power cable (included) and network cable (not, but easy enough to make) later and I was off to the races. The install CD includes windows, mac and I think linux installers for their setup utility.

  • Summary: I have a Mac Pro and a Windows Server, and got this NAS Server for storage and backup up all my systems. Setup was a complete breeze. I wish I knew this existed years ago. Great peace of mind, excellent software interface, I expect my Synology to server me well for years to come.

Great bang for the buck.

Luciano Elias, Amazon
2 April 2013
  • Summary: I got this to replace a consumer NAS, so I was expecting the performance gains. Beyond that, I found an excellent software. You can control everything with ease, it integrates perfectly with Active Directory, the apps available are great, simple and just do the work. I am still slowly tweaking it and becoming even more satisfied with my purchase. BTW, I use it with 4 Samsung 840 120 GB.

  • Summary: I use these for larger customers as a target to backup their servers/workstations. Easy to set up and are ROCK SOLID reliable. Nothing in this price range is remotely as fast.

Set it up and forget about it...

J. Turner, Amazon
2 April 2013
  • Summary: I purchased this NAS device a few months back and it is working great. The device is whisper quiet and consumes 35Watts of power running flat out. I'm using it as a subversion server, DHCP server and DNS server (in addition to storing files). File transfer speeds are advertised to be around ~107 Mbps/sec reading, but I've never gotten even close to that. Accessing files over AFP is painfully slow; use smb for macs. Time machine is supported out of the box.

Great NAS for backup and light file serving duty.

Erik Rumbaugh, Amazon
2 April 2013
  • Summary: Setup couldn't be much simpler for a product as versatile as the RS812 and after I completed setting it up and mapping my iTunes library and backup images of our 4 computers to it I haven't had to touch it since, but every time I check on it it's just humming along doing it's thing.

Zero to NAS in 45 minutes.

A. Scudiero, Amazon
2 April 2013
  • Summary: Background: After losing data to a physical HD failure I started researching NAS solutions for central storage to make an effective backup plan even possible. I have data scattered across installed drives on about 6 computers. After exhaustive research and deliberation I decided on this NAS because I wanted at least 4 drives, a rackmount solution, and wasn't ready to shell out multiple thousands of dollars for an enterprise NAS which would be way overkill for my use.
