Initial impresssion is very good

Cory M., Newegg
5 November 2010
  • Summary: I have not used this long enough to comment on reliability. But my initial impression from this device is very positive. I am using it as Tier II storage to move less important or redundant data off of my expensive EqualLogic SANs.
  • Pros: Very easy to setup. You can buy your own hard drives instead of having to buy them bundled in so you can save some money. Web interface is attractive and intuitive. Manufacturer was responsive with pre-sales technical questions.

User Review

Jonathan B., Newegg
16 September 2010
  • Summary: Still trying to figure out if it's based on a specific Linux distro or if it's home-brewed.
  • Pros: Great web interface. Everything but the kitchen sink, in terms of network protocol support (SSH, FTP, SCP, NFS, CIFS, HTTP, HTTPS, whatever junk Apple uses+Bonjour, NTP, UPS network support, print server support) Basically a Linux server, but without having to configure anything manually.
  • Cons: I've heard (not confirmed) that it runs PPC, so you'll have to recompile stuff if you want to install it.

Great step up from Synology entry NAS units

Anonymous, Newegg
14 April 2010
  • Summary: Can't go wrong with this system and the RX4. Running (8) 2 TB drives in RAID 5.
  • Pros: Needed a high end NAS unit without spending a fortune - this plus the RX4 gave us 8 drives to work with. Setup was simple - unit is pretty quiet considering. Support was responsive with some questions we had. GUI is easy to use and work with.
  • Cons: Only one RX4 per RS409+
