Good replacement for a DNS-323

JB, Amazon
26 September 2014
  • Summary: I bought this as a replacement for a failing D-Link DNS-323. I backed up my data off the D-Link, took the 2x 1.5TB drives out of the D-Link, installed them in the Synology along with 2x 4TB drives and set it up with the Synology Hybrid Raid.

Expensive but a great NAS

Tom Servo, Amazon
14 February 2013
  • Summary: The DS413j is a refresh of the DS411j 4-bay NAS model. Primary differences are 1.6GHz CPU & 512MB DDR3 RAM on the 413 vs 1.2GHz & 128MB DDR2 on the 411. Quite frankly the 411's hardware specs were disappointing (especially the 128MB RAM) and it's good to see better hardware.

Great place to store all your files

Craig Harris, Amazon
14 February 2013
  • Summary: I gave this unit 4 stars because of the price and the print server doesn't work as well as it should. Even though its price is competitive with other brands it is still a little too expensive for the consumer market.

Does what it's supposed to do

Perry, Amazon
14 February 2013
  • Summary: I looked into a number of NAS devices before I settled on this one. You can configure it in various RAID configurations as well as let the device select it's default RAID, which is what I let it do. I have (3) 750GB drives and (1) 1TB drive and the system handles it fine.

Very good product

Keith, Amazon
14 February 2013
  • Summary: I would have given it 5 stars, but Synology could do a better job at providing more detailed instructions on the setup process beyond just connecting the hardware and starting the NAS up.

One of the cheapest RAID 5 NAS options available

Chad Kieffer, Amazon
13 February 2013
  • Summary: I wanted RAID 5 and this is one of the least expensive 4-drive bay options out there. So far, I'm quite happy with the purchase. It is, as others will point out, slower than plus options from Synology. But it is quiet, simple to manage, Apple Time Capsule compatible, and full of features.

Does the job

Robert Wood, Amazon
13 February 2013
  • Summary: This is my third Synology "home class device -e or j". It meets my requirements, but it's a bit sluggish on the interface, performs strong from a file delivery perspective (streaming video).

Excellent NAS, but be careful with the selection of the HDD.

Alvaro Munoz, Amazon
13 February 2013
  • Summary: About the NAS, it is very fast. You can install a lot of applications (like DLNA servers, iTunes Server, etc) and the DSM (Disk Storage Manager) is very easy to use and friendly. However, you have to research in order to get the right hard drive for the NAS.

More then a NAS, a server

David Anderson, Amazon
13 February 2013
  • Summary: This thing is kinda killer. (have an LG 1N4B (sp?) with bluray burner) Got this with 4 4TB drives. The unit came in days before the drives, so just tossed in a single 1TB drive to play with it. Had issues that resulted in reformatting a few times. Mainly with making it a static IP.

Easy to set up, very quiet.

Robert DaSilva, Amazon
13 February 2013
  • Summary: Pros: Holds up to 16GB (non-RAID) or 12GB (RAID 5 equivalent) Very quiet Easy to set up Lots of built-in features Quick wake-from-sleep Linux-based Cons: Info manual not detailed enough Windows indexing issues (work around available) Slow transfer speeds for sharing (delays) An excellent system for...
