great for the price and updated regularly by vendor

Summary: This is a great NAS solution for the price. The box is really tiny--I was like, hey, that can't be the whole thing, when it came from UPS, but it was. It is very quiet, and runs well. Problems I have found with this are as follows: 1.
Great NAS but took some efforts in installation - "Remember to format HDDs in Windows before using with NAS".

Summary: This is my first NAS. I really love the functionality and versatility of NAS. Installation - When I opened and installed 4X4TB drives in it, Synology assistant couldn't find the DS on network. After trial and error, it could find sometime. But DSM installation didn't work.
Summary: I bought this as a replacement for a failing D-Link DNS-323. I backed up my data off the D-Link, took the 2x 1.5TB drives out of the D-Link, installed them in the Synology along with 2x 4TB drives and set it up with the Synology Hybrid Raid.
Excellent NAS, but be careful with the selection of the HDD.

Summary: About the NAS, it is very fast. You can install a lot of applications (like DLNA servers, iTunes Server, etc) and the DSM (Disk Storage Manager) is very easy to use and friendly. However, you have to research in order to get the right hard drive for the NAS.
Summary: I wanted RAID 5 and this is one of the least expensive 4-drive bay options out there. So far, I'm quite happy with the purchase. It is, as others will point out, slower than plus options from Synology. But it is quiet, simple to manage, Apple Time Capsule compatible, and full of features.
Summary: The DS413j is a refresh of the DS411j 4-bay NAS model. Primary differences are 1.6GHz CPU & 512MB DDR3 RAM on the 413 vs 1.2GHz & 128MB DDR2 on the 411. Quite frankly the 411's hardware specs were disappointing (especially the 128MB RAM) and it's good to see better hardware.
Summary: I gave this unit 4 stars because of the price and the print server doesn't work as well as it should. Even though its price is competitive with other brands it is still a little too expensive for the consumer market.
Summary: Pros: Holds up to 16GB (non-RAID) or 12GB (RAID 5 equivalent) Very quiet Easy to set up Lots of built-in features Quick wake-from-sleep Linux-based Cons: Info manual not detailed enough Windows indexing issues (work around available) Slow transfer speeds for sharing (delays) An excellent system for...
