extremely underpowered for what it advertises to be able to do

Summary: performance is not acceptable, it is not possible to use all the features adequately because CPU is at 100% all the time. i thought perhaps they had hardware accelleration and optimizations that allow this to function as advertised but it doesnt, it is as slow as you would expect a computer with a 800mhz CPU to be, which is VERY.
This product is insecure. Avoid this company at all cost.

Summary: I own this NAS server for about 6 months. In the beginning it was all good. It is easy to setup, and comes with a bunch of optional packages that adds various multimedia features. Until recently, it started spitting weird warning message when I logged in from ssh, saying that it fails to load LD_PRELOAD library /lolz/jynx2.so. I was alerted enough to realize it is very likely a rootkit infection.
Summary: I really wanted this NAS to work it has lots of cool apps that can be installed on it. But the unit keeps hanging while transferring lots of files it becomes totally unresponsive. The blue light on the power button just keeps blinking if you try to shut it down, even if you leave it on overnight it will still keep blinking you have to unplug it and restart it for it to work again.
Summary: I purchased this as a NAS for my home network. My home network is a gigabit network and I have couple computers and a home theater PC on the network. I purchased this NAS to store all of my media and to use to backup my computers (Mac/PC). The setup was very easy and all of the packages for media sharing and monitoring worked fine. The reason I feel this product is useless is because of the poor access performance.
Summary: Expensive and looks nice, but thats about it. it is slow, very slow, upload speed is average, around 100 to 600KB/s (synology quote 50MB/s) The latest DSM is a pain to use. if it didn't cost so much, i would beat it to death with a hammer. Its far cheaper and better to buy a couple of external hard drives, which is my next purchase.
Great for 6 months then lost loads of data due to buggy OS

Summary: Up to about a week ago I had been very happy with my Synology DS413j diskstation since purchasing 6 months ago. During that time it had worked perfectly with four 3TB WD Red drives installed under the default configuration and I had experienced no real issues whatsoever. HOWEVER...
Summary: Let me start by saying I run a software based organisation and whilst not a techie, understand the importance of usability and fitness for purpose - this product fails miserably on the usability and fitness for purpose in that I was unable to even get the thing set up. I read lots of reviews about this product and its competitors before buying it so felt confident of its ability to meet my needs.
Summary: I posted an extremely negative review before and I have decided to amend it, even though the main title stands. This buy was a gigantic waste of time, a bit less of money because I got my money back in the end as I decided to return the item. Mostly, my experience has been terrible as I went from early disappointment to something closer to rage...
