Summary: I bought this to as a media server. I have a DLink 2 bay NAS which is running out of space since I only have 2 1.5 TB drives in it. I bought this so I could get at least 8 TB storage. So far it has been a big mistake. The software for this is a steaming pile. It is overly complex and bloated.
extremely underpowered for what it advertises to be able to do

Summary: performance is not acceptable, it is not possible to use all the features adequately because CPU is at 100% all the time. i thought perhaps they had hardware accelleration and optimizations that allow this to function as advertised but it doesnt, it is as slow as you would expect a computer with a...
Summary: I purchased a new WD30EURX to go along with this, and was the first drive put in it. All SMART tests listed with the drive have always been good. One week after use, I unplugged it to move it, plugged it back in, and the drive in question lost it's partition on it, again, still reporting no SMART...
Pros: Clean, neat. Easy to slide drives in. UI is fairly nice. System also allows direct SSH access when needed.
Cons: Lost one of my drives partitions after a week. 2TB of data gone. Don'y rely on it for data integrity.
Summary: I really wanted this NAS to work it has lots of cool apps that can be installed on it. But the unit keeps hanging while transferring lots of files it becomes totally unresponsive. The blue light on the power button just keeps blinking if you try to shut it down, even if you leave it on overnight it...
Summary: I purchased this as a NAS for my home network. My home network is a gigabit network and I have couple computers and a home theater PC on the network. I purchased this NAS to store all of my media and to use to backup my computers (Mac/PC).

Cons: -No way to recover your data if the raid fails without buying a new disk. So if one disk fails you are unable to make a quick backup. -When you replace the failed disk it re-formats the entire RAID volume. -Therefore if one disk fails and you do not have a backup you are not getting it back. I ha...
Summary: Expensive and looks nice, but thats about it. it is slow, very slow, upload speed is average, around 100 to 600KB/s (synology quote 50MB/s) The latest DSM is a pain to use. if it didn't cost so much, i would beat it to death with a hammer.
Great for 6 months then lost loads of data due to buggy OS

Summary: Up to about a week ago I had been very happy with my Synology DS413j diskstation since purchasing 6 months ago. During that time it had worked perfectly with four 3TB WD Red drives installed under the default configuration and I had experienced no real issues whatsoever. HOWEVER...
Summary: Let me start by saying I run a software based organisation and whilst not a techie, understand the importance of usability and fitness for purpose - this product fails miserably on the usability and fitness for purpose in that I was unable to even get the thing set up.
