Summary: This item met my expectation and it is exceeding my expectation every week. The support line, chat rooms and contact email support are very usefull and ready to support. The product itself has many features and many features are being deveoped by non compamy developers. I would recommend anyone who is interested in creating their own cloud or using the equipment to backup their pcitures and or files to purchase this product.
Summary: I work for a manufacturing company that utilizes Synology as much as possible. We currently have 5 models from the 214+ up to a large enterprise SAN. I, also, use the 214+ at home. This is an all around nice file server. I use it house my media server as well as a website. I have had 0 problems so far. The 2 drive bay makes it easy and cheap to add disks. If you need more storage, you can use the USB 3 ports to add an external drive.
Summary: Purchased this drive a month ago and I did not have any issues with installing or using it. We are using it in a small business as a workstation backup drive with 2 3TB WD Red drives. The DS214 works great as a mapped drive on a Windows network and the dashboard it has (viewable from Firefox or any other web browser) is simple yet informative. As an unexpected bonus, you can install a few apps to add server roles.
Almost perfect but cannot be beat for the price/value!!!!!

Summary: Works fantastic after a week of tinkering with all settings. I use this with 2 X 3tb WD Red NAS drives. I wanted additional storage at home on my network and wanted to be able to access it anywhere at anytime. I also have two Foscam cameras that I wanted attached to my NAS. Finally, I wanted a multimedia box to store and play all my movies.
Good NAS, but no Mac Spotlight searching is deal killer

Summary: Reasonable features for NAS and only moderately complex to set up, but lack of support for Apple Spotlight searches for data stored on the NAS drives is a deal killer for most Mac users, IMO. However, Synology isn't alone here -- I found no Spotlight support by any NAS units at all, so if you're a Mac user and want/need a NAS but understand you can't use Spotlight on those volumes, Synology is better than most.
