Summary: I have ordered a Synology 1511+ for the department I support and loved it, so I bought this for home use. It works great with nice transfer speeds. I use it as a datastore for Crashplan as well as a file/media server.
Summary: The Synology was purchased to replace a Qnap that I never could get to work right, especially for remote access, my primary need. The software is very good, easy to understand and setup this unit.
Summary: This was an upgrade to a set of NAS that owned. Wanted a higher end product with more speed and features. This product delivers. Still working out all the issues with getting it installed. (more of learning all the features and configurations) Have not set up the cloud functions yet.
Summary: The Synology DS212 with 1TByte (2 x 500GByte) disk space was very simple to put together, and add to my existing network. Following the Quick Start information was easy, and the server was up and running within the day, with RAID.
Summary: For the normal PC user without networking experience adding a Synology NAS is not as intuitive as you might think. You will need to spend a fair amount of time reading the enormous instruction manual to get to grips with the "assistant" and the DRM operating system.
Just what it says on the tin and then some, if not a tad slow though

Summary: With a gigabit connection I get max write speed of 38mbps. It's slow...very slow compared to the advertised 59mbps + Other than that it's a great product, easy to set up and use. The Cloud software is a bonus! Well done Synology.
