Synology = Awesome

IT Guy, Amazon
30 August 2012
  • Summary: I store all of my content on a Synology DS1010+ running a 10TB RAID 5 volume. When you think about the massive volumes you can build and at such a low price point on a system that sips power it really is incredible. Runs like a tank.

It's expensive, but oh so worth it

J. Brown, Amazon
20 March 2012
  • Summary: I purchased the expansion unit after dropping a server that had all my drives in it, and thinking to myself that I needed to move my drives to a more secure location. I already had the DS1511+, so this made sense. The cost though, it was a bit much, for the ability to add 5 drives to an existing NAS, right? Yes, but... Why pay for this when you can simply plug in a eSata unit that's cheaper, or a couple USB drives. For you, I have a list: * Hot swap.

Fast and flexible NAS

Larry Bates "Larry Bates", Amazon
10 October 2011
  • Summary: After testing a BUNCH of other NAS devices I have finally decided that Synology will be my only choice in the future. This thing is REALLY fast (over 90MB/sec over Gigabit LAN with jumbo frames) and easy to set up. I setup with 2 x 2TB WD hard drives and then upgraded to 2 x 3TB WD hard drives without missing a beat. They aren't cheap, but save so much time they are worth the extra cost.

Very powerful NAS--Must buy!

D. Bourland, Amazon
2 September 2011
  • Summary: This NAS has a lot of features. I can connect to it via my iPhone, my Xoom, and obviously my laptop. I didn't quite get the blazing speeds mentioned, this was also via WiFi. The tech support did respond quickly when I had questions and I can say speeds are pretty fast if directly connected via ethernet. I would buy this all over again.

Excellent NAS for Home/Small Office

Amazon Customer "foow524", Amazon
27 July 2011
  • Summary: This NAS is easy to setup and extremely fast which made transfering files from my old NAS much faster than I expected. I configured the device with two Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB drives in RAID 1. I have seen network transfer rates between the Synology 710+ and my Intel SSD at up to 900 Mb/s on large (over 1 GB) video files. When transfering over 17,000 photos of a few MB apiece, the transfer rates from my old NAS to this device were 500 Mb/s to 600 Mb/s.

My First NAS

Gilbert M, Amazon
27 July 2011
  • Summary: Synology DiskStation 5-Bay (Diskless) Scalable Network Attached Storage DS1511+ (Black) Although I am reasonably competent with PCs and Mac's, I am a neophyte when dealing with NAS units. I was a little concerned dealing with Linux or command line prompts. I also wanted a solution which was scalable, required minimal handholding for adding or replacing drives, or changing RAID configurations as the number of drives in the unit grew.
