Excellent product

Nyberg "Bookish", Amazon
19 November 2012
  • Summary: This is a great NAS. It's been extremely reliable. I'm not a computer expert and still found it relatively easy to set up. Plan on purchasing Enterprise HDD rather than Desktop especially if you're running it 24/7.

Fast and flexible NAS

Larry Bates "Larry Bates", Amazon
10 October 2011
  • Summary: After testing a BUNCH of other NAS devices I have finally decided that Synology will be my only choice in the future. This thing is REALLY fast (over 90MB/sec over Gigabit LAN with jumbo frames) and easy to set up.

Very powerful NAS--Must buy!

D. Bourland, Amazon
3 September 2011
  • Summary: This NAS has a lot of features. I can connect to it via my iPhone, my Xoom, and obviously my laptop. I didn't quite get the blazing speeds mentioned, this was also via WiFi. The tech support did respond quickly when I had questions and I can say speeds are pretty fast if directly connected via...

Great NAS

Brett N., Newegg
1 August 2011
  • Summary: I use the video surveillance capability and really dig it. No thermal or noise issues. I have used WHS and found it to be annoying,...I should have bought this NAS sooner.
  • Pros: Very easy to get up and running. I installed 2 WD drives, (WD2002FAEX-007BA) and configured for RAID 1. Awesome interface, (running 3.2 beta firmware), with zero problems. User management is piece of cake. This is a great product. From my perspective best bang for the buck!
  • Cons: None so far.

My First NAS

Gilbert M, Amazon
27 July 2011
  • Summary: Synology DiskStation 5-Bay (Diskless) Scalable Network Attached Storage DS1511+ (Black) Although I am reasonably competent with PCs and Mac's, I am a neophyte when dealing with NAS units. I was a little concerned dealing with Linux or command line prompts.

Excellent NAS for Home/Small Office

Amazon Customer "foow524", Amazon
27 July 2011
  • Summary: This NAS is easy to setup and extremely fast which made transfering files from my old NAS much faster than I expected. I configured the device with two Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB drives in RAID 1.

Best Performance For the Buck

Daniel K., Newegg
8 July 2011
  • Summary: Did a lot of research and coming from an older 100mb LAN NAS, this thing feels like a Ferrari. Large copies that used to take hours, now take minutes. A 5x-10x reduction in most cases. This is partially due to the hardware, but more to do with the full and solid GB LAN support.
  • Pros: Great speed, and after 5 months of ownership, great reliability as well so far. This was the fastest, hot swappable, NAS I could find for the price. The option to expand to 4 more bays is also nice.
  • Cons: None so far at 5 months.

Awesome upgrade, noise might be the photo indexer

Aleksandar Totic, Amazon
5 February 2011
  • Summary: Diskstation was a pleasant surprise. Everything was faster, simpler, and just worked. NAS are not always like this, this my 3rd. I use NAS as a backup, family media storage, and a scratch disk when I move large files between machines. My old ReadyNAS Duo was slow, puny 10MB/s.
