Probably the Best NAS available, but still requires lots of technical savvy to get it set up for use

Summary: Initial review 1/3/2014 after receiving and starting up the system. I will update as I gain more experience with this. This had the best reviews compared to Buffalo and other NAS devices I had researched.
Summary: Very Nice NAS, fantastic GUI. If you want AD support be prepared to reduce your security on your DC. Terrible support when something unexpected happens. -2 stars for security and length of time support takes for Email.
Not so bulletproof as one would hope for so much money (Updated)

Summary: I bought mine in the diskless variety from a big NYC retailer since I was a bit put off by Amazon's return policy for this type of item. I don't have to tell you that this NAS is not cheap. Unfortunately, it does not feel like a quality product at all.
Summary: I have used a number of Synology NAS devices with much success. The 4-bay models in particular offer a huge amount of storage in a very compact case--with great software (powerful but not overly complicated), multiple RAID configurations, etc.
Summary: I bought a Synology DS412+ in February, 2013. After owning it for 11 months I have a few observations about this device. First, the performance of the DS412+ is fantastic. I don't know how you could say anything negative about the performance of this device relative to other similar devices.
Rock Solid NAS with Great Capabilities - If you can figure them out...

Summary: Had the manufacturer promised only that this would be a rock-solid NAS for back up along with file access on your internal network, I would be pleased as punch and give the 412+ a five star rating. However, they promised much more, and that is where my problems have occurred.
Summary: I bougth it to replace a 2 bay Buffalo Linkstation wich worked flawlessly for many years. My primary use is as a safe centralized storage for my projects, media and documents. I had the Synology NAS sever for less than 3 months. During the first month I had to replace 2 disks.
Product Works, too complicated for mere mortal engineers.

Summary: This product works as advertised, but technical support is oblivious. I always have backups for every computer on my network. However, when I recently re-imaged a pc, and then went to the backups on the 412+, windows would not recognize them as backups. So I was unable to restore.
