Summary: This was a well planned out purchase. Synology is known for having great products and this maintains that reputation. I originally purchased this for a reliable backup option for my computers and laptop however it does so much more! Currently its also holding my videos and music which I can stream to my TV via DLNA easiness. Easily connect to it remotely. In addition there as iPhone apps to connect to the unit and now I can stream my music or videos from it.
Summary: The graphical interface it provides is ok. I installed 2TB of capacity and for about a year it worked fairly well. It stopped responding periodically but a reboot would usually get it started again. But after 11 months, it died completely during a routine 6GB transfer to it. Save yourself some headache and find something else.
Summary: The size allows to save space and compared with older iomega NAS the noise level is very low. I would like to see enhancements on the media server apps since I think it could perform better when trying to share hundred of thousands of media files. I think this would be perfect for a small home office that needs to store a lot of files that are used by several computers.
Summary: This is my first NAS system. It works perfectly along with my Synology DiskStation 4-Bay. I have a MAC and I can now back up both Macbook Pro's within my house without issues. I also utilize it for movies, music and home business applications. I also love it since it was fairly simple to connect my daughters iPad to it so she can watch movies. I have ran all three devices (2 laptops 1 iPad) with movies seamlessly and no interupptions. Perfect setup, well worth the money.
Summary: I've had this box for a couple of months now, and it works _great_. I've got it configured with four HGST Travelstar 5K1500 1.5TB drives configured as a 3-drive array using Synology's proprietary format, plus one hot spare. It has everything you want in a SOHO NAS, and runs a well-supported Linux distro that you can add packages to if you need something a little more custom. This is my third NAS, and will probably be my fourth as well. Highly recommended.
Summary: Use it everyday for over a month and I'm just now figuring out all the great features that come with it. I've had zero issues with it on my home network and can connect to it over the web securely. I've updated the OS to DSM 5.0 with no problems and it's the best music server I've ever used. I highly recommend this for all home users and maybe some small business applications too.
