Great! Especially the firmware!

Alex, Amazon
14 December 2013
  • Summary: A great little NAS but the firmware and web interface is really what Synology apart from other devices. It's like using a real computer within your browser! Everything is a real, proper user interface with draggable icons and windows on the "desktop". I'll certainly be buying another!

Wonderful NAS

IT_Doc, Amazon
2 December 2012
  • Summary: The Synology DiskStation DS411 is an excellent addition to any network - be it home or work. The DS411 can accommodate four disk drives up to 4 TB in size. This device is also a server with many useful applications that can be easily installed including a media server, iTunes server, web server, and so on.

Synology NAS up and running!

Robert Burtt, Amazon
29 August 2012
  • Summary: Well, after a few days and more help from Synology and the forums there I finally got my NAS working mostly how I want it. I find and hear my NAS fans very barely which is great! I find these fans...quiet fans! The Drives are working GREAT as far as I can tell and the rest of my Synology NAS! I would like to find some more WIFI media players to run in different rooms. Working on that off and on. Thanks! p.s.

Amazing NAS box

EJ, Amazon
2 August 2012
  • Summary: I originally purchased a Synology on the recommendation if a friend who did computer graphics. I was looking at these over other manufactures due to the Hybrid RAID, and its mechanism for expanding a RAID array. Most other devices in this price range support only standard RAID levels, with no options for expansion but wiping and reforming the array. This device, including the DSM software is closer to a home server than a simple NAS.

Spotlight searches

Pen Name, Amazon
17 July 2012
  • Summary: Wish there was a way to get Spotlight to index the DS411 drive(s) so I could search for files on the NAS. It wasn't working the first time I tried it. Then one time I was able to do a search using 10.7 Then later I could not search for file names. Synology support mentioned in their email to me that Spotlight searches don't really work.

Decent unit but there's a catch

bakerjw "Bakerjw", Amazon
16 July 2012
  • Summary: I didn't have too much trouble setting up my DS411 after receiving it but lucky for me I have worked in networking and server support for many years which helped get it back onto my home network IP address range without too much trouble. Pros. It integrated into my home domain without too much difficulty. I'm still having some resolving problems on a couple of PCs but that is overcome without too much difficulty.

Easy home use with professional features

Jason, Amazon
14 May 2012
  • Summary: There are more comprehensive reviews on this particular server - we've had it now for 2 weeks, and it is fantastic. Some reviews say they are expeiencing slower speeds, but we replaced our router because the Ethernet ports now run at gigabit speeds whereas the older routers run at 10/100 - i.e. meaning you are constrainted to 10mb speeds instead of nearer 100mb speeds with a gigabit router hardware.

Friggin' ROCKS

J. Way, Amazon
24 April 2012
  • Summary: Bought this to replace a POS DLink wannabe that croaked after a year with nil customer support. Had this up and running in RAID 5 in a matter of minutes about 3 weeks ago. The interface is unreal, if you're looking for better, you may as well be waiting for the Fairy God Mother to deliver it. In case you didn't get the point...It's great, just buy it and stop worrying.
