Summary: Well, it's my 3rd Synology NAS. Like the guys from Apple saying:"It just works". There are some glitches here and there, but in such complex device, you can't expect it all working "with no glitches" at all. Like the interface, the apps and the building quality, its also quit. Using mostly popular features like Photo and Download Stations, but also Backup and Shared folder sync (to other Synology) Using it to backup photos to Amazon S3 and sync it to Google drive.
reliable, well supported, interesting applications after 3 years

Summary: I bought my Synology DS 411+ 3 years ago. I'm so pleased with this product I wanted to leave my rating here and a smattering of observations. __SETUP__ My Synology setup has x4 2TB disks . They are combined in a "RAID5 with Data Protection" disk scheme. There is an additional 2TB USB disk on which most things are backed up weekly. My Synology 411+ is regularly busy because several computers access it for serving files over SMB , FTP and UPnP .
Summary: A great little NAS but the firmware and web interface is really what Synology apart from other devices. It's like using a real computer within your browser! Everything is a real, proper user interface with draggable icons and windows on the "desktop". I'll certainly be buying another!
Summary: The Synology DiskStation DS411 is an excellent addition to any network - be it home or work. The DS411 can accommodate four disk drives up to 4 TB in size. This device is also a server with many useful applications that can be easily installed including a media server, iTunes server, web server, and so on.
Summary: For the price, I cant imagine there is a better unit on the market than this one. Have been able to set up everything i have attempted with minimal assitance from support, which i must say is excellent they provide understandable answers that even i can understand
Summary: This is my first NAS, and so far the experience has been great. It was extremely simple to install all 4 hard disks into the device to get the initial setup going. Also, if you're like me, after opening a product you tend to just toss the "Getting Started" CD to the side. This is one of those cases where you actually need it. After inserting the disk, it finds the NAS on your local network and begins the setup process.
Summary: Well, after a few days and more help from Synology and the forums there I finally got my NAS working mostly how I want it. I find and hear my NAS fans very barely which is great! I find these fans...quiet fans! The Drives are working GREAT as far as I can tell and the rest of my Synology NAS! I would like to find some more WIFI media players to run in different rooms. Working on that off and on. Thanks! p.s.
Summary: I back up all of my computers to this server, plus store tons of music, movies, and photos. I'm using both Amazon S3 and Synologybackup for offsite storage. Already lost one hard drive, but never lost data.
Summary: I originally purchased a Synology on the recommendation if a friend who did computer graphics. I was looking at these over other manufactures due to the Hybrid RAID, and its mechanism for expanding a RAID array. Most other devices in this price range support only standard RAID levels, with no options for expansion but wiping and reforming the array. This device, including the DSM software is closer to a home server than a simple NAS.
