My Year With The Synology DS411J
Darren O'Neill, Amazon

Summary: I have been using this device for close to a year now and have been pleasantly surprised with the quality and ease of use. As hard drives get bigger and bigger it's more important to have a backup solution on-site as well as have a place to store large media files.
Summary: I purchased four of exactly the same SATA 1.5 drives and configured this NAS with Synology's own RAID technology. This unit is behind our firewall so I can't speak to it's public face, but we have used the VPN (opening a port through our firewall) for my wife's business...
Summary: What can I say about this, the second synolgy NAS box I have purchased. They just work! Wonderfully! Though, with a few less features than my DS-409 (running like a champ, coming up on 2 years now), this little box is just as rock solid.
Summary: Thought I would be getting faster speeds and I am. Big turn on is the Raid 5 now I am feeling better that I have pictures off my NAS-200 which is several years old and only 10/100 with really no redundancy.
Summary: Not a lot to say except Brilliant. Evan more so for I T peeps. Excellent built in software and Web interface. Add drives and it sorts out the raid setup if you want it easy. You can manually set it up the way you want, if you want. Plug it in and set up your backup routine.
Summary: Really like it, has a fantastic web interface, a good quantity of software addons are available, superb ongoing firmware support and lower power consumption. Should've gone for a model with a slightly high specced CPU though.
Summary: Fairly easy to set up, even for a novice. Great apps and runs absolutely silently. Don't run the firewall unless you know which protocols to keep running as it stops it being seen on the network. Does plenty of stuff of which I have yet to find out.
Summary: I bought this after significant research with 4x2TB WD hard drives. It has transformed my home IT, with snapshot backup, excellent performance, and a very good support community to help with config etc.
Summary: Not much to say except that it does what it is supposed to do. Excellent interface, a lot of packages working perfectly, easy to set-up, automatic update of both the system and packages installed. I have had this system for 2 years now without any problem.
