cant go wrong with synology

Summary: I own five synology units and just purchased another for my brother. This particular model is sturdy and features eSATA which is much faster than USB for external devices. Takes a while to wake up from sleep, but the GUI is amazing which IMO is the reason to pay a little more for a synology over competitor brands. I mainly use it as a media server, but there is so much more this baby can do. I'm definitely under utilizing it, but am very happy with this purchase.
Summary: A week ago, I would have given this an easy 5 star review but a couple of days ago it stopped recognizing all 4 of the drives. Two calls to tech support and a couple of hours of testing, indicated that there was a problem with the Synology box (although tech support never actually conceded that point). They told me that if it was still under warranty I could RMA it. I checked and this box is seven months out of warranty.
Rare piece of computer hardware that has become more valuable with age

Summary: Initially bought it just for basic NAS/file service several years ago. Synology regularly provides updates to DSM that add significant functionality -- although it is worth waiting a bit and reading their forums because a few releases have caused problems. But on balance, the additional packages, features and improvements have provided functionality far beyond a basic NAS. Still going strong, and I've added a DS1513+.
Summary: We have several of these NAS units in our network (DS412+, DS1511, and DS410). Their performance and reliability are amazing. We love the throughput from multiple users and heavy large file transfers. As the administrator I love the ability to back devices up to eachother, and their cloudstation software has made synchronization of files to employees whilst traveling a breeze.
Summary: The first unit I received from Amazon was defective... However, Amazon fixed the whole thing and I had a new unit in 48 hours. These things happen, not a problem. I've had the replaced unit for nearly 2 years now. I bought the disk station because it was comparatively cheap, 4 bays, LAN connectivity, had great network performance (huge issues if you actually look into it), expandable storage method, and has a web-based management system (called DSM).
Summary: I originally bought this to back up my pictures and videos of work-related projects. Then, to reduce all that paper in our office, we bought the Fujitsu document scanner Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for PC and it became obvious we had to have serious, rock solid back-up system in place. In case of an audit or legal issues, you want to make sure you can retrieve all necessary docs. We loaded this unit with (4) 2TB drives, giving us 8TB of storage.
Summary: Did the research, compared results, and made the purchase. Of course, ordering from Amazon was the usual ho hum experience. Place the order, get exactly what you ordered on time, no drama. The Synology DiskStation DS410 for my purposes has been nothing but phenomenal. After installing the disks, and upgrading the DS Manager and installing applications, the NAS behaves true to its purpose...sits there and file serves without fanfare.
Summary: I purchased my Synology DiskStation DS410 a year ago for my business and it has proven to be a well built solid product used nearly every day for all our digital storage needs. In fact, we have stopped saving files to our local computer hard drives and now store everything on the network. We also have it connected to a cloud-backup service in case fire destroys our physical unit.
Summary: I bought the Synology DS410, but I lost its power cable. It was my falt. And as I live out of USA, it was difficult to purchase a new cable. So I got in contact with Synology and they provided me an outstanding support. I still did not have time to setup my DS410, but I already can recommend Synolgy as a great company due to their support.
