Summary: This is an easy to setup NAS that seems so far to be fairly user friendly. But - and it's a important but - this whole NAS thing really isn't for the faint hearted. I am not a tecchie or networks guy, and whilst I am still going with it and all seems to be fine, we do have periods where the NAS, Mac, iPhones and BT home hub appear to be having a big argument, with most unwilling to talk to each other.
Summary: Great device if you know what your doing. I've managed to set it up but port forwarding is an area not for the feint hearted. It allows me to stream all of my images. Music and videos to my TV via wifi and my ipad/iPhone with no problems using the synology apps free from Apple Stores. Also provides a wifi hot spot to share those files. I just need more time to understand how to utilise the other areas of the Synology drive and its so many other features.
Summary: This has been very easy to setup and use. Quickly installed 2 3TB WD Red drives - bought as separate purchase from amazon. Easy installation. I've now got my stuff properly backed up and with regular easy incremental backups configured too. The Media server functions appear smooth and easy to set up too. Not tried the Cloud server yet - one thing at a time. No regrets over purchasing this. Think its an excellent investment to protect my data.
Summary: I was recommended this by a colleague at work and it has lived up to my expectations. Works straight out of the box with little user configuration required. Still getting to grips with all that is little wonder can do.
Summary: I'm reasonably proficient with computers, but by no means a tech guru. I wanted something that was pretty plug and play - I work in I.T. all day (not as a techie though) and don't want to faff about with computers in my spare time. This was not as plug and play as they would have you think. It plugged in and booted up no worries. Got it connected and mapped the network drive to my Windows laptop no worries. Could create directories etc.
Summary: I set this up with the aim of it not only performing as a NAS but also as a WIFI hotspot. Result is that the NAS functions perfectly well with a comprehensive set of functions - way beyond my needs. But the Wifi was pretty lame - lots of dropped connections. I've had to switch the Wifi off and revert back to a Netgear router to perform that function.
Summary: Purchased the Synology DS213 air DiskStation around 6 months ago. It installed reasonably easily, setup took a little while but the instructions when downloaded are comprehensive. I installed 2x 3Tb disks and connected it via ethernet to my ADSL Wireless router, and then I am able to access the disks over my local wifi.
