Pros: There are so many good things about this product that ive lost count. Ive had many surprises about this product, but every surprise has been positive! Bought this for a automatic file backup system for home and work. Easy set up, Slick interface, merged into my network seamlessly, offers more fea...
Summary: In short, nicely designed hardware, and it's powered by Linux so it can (eventually) be made to work properly. Just ignore the extremely uneven user experience/user interface. I was just hoping for a better user experience based on so many people giving the DS software good reviews.
Pros: Very good feel to the hardware, seems very solid and very cleverly constructed. Low power consumption.
Cons: The user interface is excruciatingly slow. Just navigating menus can cause the CPU to hit 75% usage, . It's pretty severely underpowered. You have to waste a lot of time getting past the marketingspeak to figure out what package does what. The interface to Linux they've come up with is almost as ...
Summary: Stop hesitating and just buy this already.
Pros: You're not only paying for the device with this NAS, but you're paying for Synology's incredible Diskstation software. Seriously look up videos of this incredible OS-like software. It allows for easy configuration, setup, and maintenance. While you can attach wireless dongles to other Synology NA...
Cons: Compatibility with external enclosures or external drives is limited and listed on their website. It's really not a con for this device, but I wish they made a 4-bay or 8-bay white wireless NAS like this. Hopefully it's coming.
Summary: Had a couple of issues with this device. First, the software has this auto "convert-thumbnail" function, that just eats away system resources if you have any picture on your shared photo folder.
Pros: I did extensive research before I bought this NAS server. If you're doing a budget friendly network get this server. Installing the DSM is rather quick and easy if you're downloading it from the internet after plugging a cat5e or cat6 cable in. Also the hotspot built in the server works great.

Summary: Purchased this Unit - A dream. Purchased; separately; Professional SE Drives - Rated above the Reds - (REDS fail quicker than the Pro Versions) see link below. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CYSYYU8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?
Summary: SECURITY RISK There is problem with all Synology devices such that a software update can cause your NAS to be hijacked and all files encrypted by malware called 'Synolocker'. Despite knowing this problem, Synology prompted onwers to update their NAS management software and did not advise them of the...
Summary: This has been very easy to setup and use. Quickly installed 2 3TB WD Red drives - bought as separate purchase from amazon. Easy installation. I've now got my stuff properly backed up and with regular easy incremental backups configured too.
Summary: This unit was supplied by Amazon itself with twin 2GB Seagate hard drives already fitted (for convenience), and I was relieved to find that they were on Synology's compatibility list of approved desktop-grade drives.
