Summary: Ok here we go. As you can see there are a bunch of glowing reviews on this Nas here on Amazon. I can see why there are. Now I will tell you my experience, and you can judge for yourself if this is what you want to try for your storage needs. I really wanted to like the Synology 1512+. I have waited two months to let the experience settle in my mind, and to compose my thoughts on what happened. Dealing with this unit is like dealing with a beautiful woman with PMS.
Summary: Got this to replace a defective and inadequate Drobo FS which was to replace an aging home-built 16x1.5 WHS rig. Setup was very easy and the UI is unbelievable. I've never seen anything like this in any storage appliance or other network device for that matter. After about a week, one of the brand new Seagate 3tb drives I'd had in it failed. The management software removed it from the set and alerted me.
Summary: I bought this unit and have suffered the same fate of others...the device stopped working after a few days and just has a quickly blinking blue light and is unresponsive. Synology's support hasn't been any help as of yet. Synology DID tweet about the issue and addressing it. That's comforting, but that doesn't get my data back. I owned a Synology DS209j before this unit and loved it.
