Summary: This NAS solved a lot of things in my house. I watch a lot of movies, so I always use PLEX, the seamless integration with my LG TV is great! even the subtitles works (.srt separate file), and the audio is never downmix, i got full dolby digital 5.1. Surveillance Station works great with my 2 cameras, an old Vivotek and an usb webcam (there's a driver to plug the webcam directly to synology's usb port). I backup regularly my 2 laptops, windows 7 and OSX with no issues.
Summary: I have had this unit (installed with 5 WD RE4 1TB drives) for more than a year. My house is wired with Cat5e cables. The storage offers faster read and write speed than the local HD on my MacBook Pro. It has been a good investment. The system has been stable and working well without issues. The user interface could use some update.
Summary: This NAS is exceptional. Tons of features and options! Great stability and stellar performance. I'm getting 100mb plus transfer speeds on my GB network. Takes about 7-8 seconds to transfer a gig and a half of data.
Summary: I was looking for a SAN home solution and was hesitating between DROBO and SYNOLOGY. I chose SYNOLOGY because they offer more softwares with their solution. You can pick and install whatever you want (example of available softwares: Asterisk, sugar crm, vpn server, drupal, logitech media server, etc etc..) The only BAD comment I have about it is the fact that their video surveillance station does not work with MAC OS X. I used to. But it does not anymore.
Summary: I've had a few hiccups with my synology products. I own a few DS1511+'s and a DS1812+. When they work, they are great. It's when failures occur that both the product, and more notably the company response are poor. My experience is that these things don't fail gracefully. And they have bugs. I won't get into the various issues I've had, I'll just mention one which I've had great frustration with.
Summary: Because of some problems I'd had with a cheaper NAS, I decided that getting a unit that's more reliable was imperative, and the extra cost for this unit was dwarfed by the data recovery costs I incurred with the cheaper units. This thing has purred since day 1 and given me practically no problems whatsoever.
Summary: We have several of these NAS units in our network (DS412+, DS1511, and DS410). Their performance and reliability are amazing. We love the throughput from multiple users and heavy large file transfers. As the administrator I love the ability to back devices up to eachother, and their cloudstation software has made synchronization of files to employees whilst traveling a breeze.
Summary: I bought the DX1511+ after having some problems with by drive controller in my server, and in general couldn't be happier. There are a few gotchas, but I can't help but to recommend this to people who want to make their storage needs easier. We'll get right into it and talk about why this is better than every other NAS on the market. The software. The Disk Station Manager software is extremely easy to use, and will allow you do to almost anything you want.
