I had to return this

Summary: I could not get it to work the way I wanted it to with my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop. I tried and tried, but I couldn't figure it out. I am just above the level of noob when it comes to ubunut/linux though, so maybe you could do better. But this was not easy to get to mount on my laptop. Among other issues, the private torrent tracker I use didn't allow the Synology torrent downloader app to work with it.
Summary: The synology ds-112j will not run the symform cloud backup app period because it does not contain enough memory. I found this out the hard way. The ds-112 will. Just a warning. I was fooled into thinking it would because there are numerous articles to that effect including this one: [...
Summary: This was a good looking NAS but ultimately I had to send it back because of some fundamental problems. Firstly, the fan was very noisy. If you're siting the NAS in a room in which you work, you will be distracted by the low hum of the fan. Secondly and more importantly, it was plagued by the thumbnail issue described in other reviews and on the Synology forums. I bought this thinking that if I turned off Photo Station, then I would not suffer the thumbnail problem.
Summary: This device is the cheapest, bottom of the range, synology device you can get. It works in many basic ways however a number of really useful features are missing if you would like to use it as a video storage device to stream to a smart TV (which is exactly what I bought it for!). For this to work with all sort of video formats you need it to transcode video as many devices don't play lots of formats. THIS MODEL DOES NOT SUPPORT TRANSCODING OF VIDEO.
