Summary: I purchased this hoping to setup my own private cloud--too many security breaches at the public cloud companies, I figure I can do bad all on my own. After fiddling with this thing for a couple of weeks, I'm returning it. Synology's support is slow, slow, slow. Takes about 3 days to get a response.
Summary: SECURITY RISK There is problem with all Synology devices such that a software update can cause your NAS to be hijacked and all files encrypted by malware called 'Synolocker'. Despite knowing this problem, Synology prompted onwers to update their NAS management software and did not advise them of the known problem - you would have to know of the problem already or be a regular visitors to their support forum to find out about it.
Latest firmware bricks it and Synology not responding

Summary: BEWARE! Do not touch this NAS; in giving the interface an infantile, Windows8 type look Synology have killed the device so it won't boot up and have not posted any messages on their forums explaining their actions. I have QNAP and Zyxel NAS devices - both better than this.
