Summary: Always wanted an NAS and now that I'm converting my old analog surveillance system to IP it was the perfect opportunity to get one for a Network Video Recorder (NVR). Synology has a very good reputation for their DMS and application software so a small NAS with expansion capabilities was in order.
Summary: The choices are dizzying, however I decided on this unit for it specs (https://www.synology.com/en-global/products/DS713+). The two bay Western Digital red 4TB mirrored is more than what I need for home use as a home business. Scalability up to 42TB. Easy setup.
Pros: Can't say enough about Synology as this is my second one as an upgrade, Fast, Easy setup, easy upgrade migration between the two different nas's, did not lose one piece of data, love Synology!! Keep up the good work!!
Summary: A couple years back my main system crashed. I played around with the hard drive and was able to get about an hours worth of life back out of it to try and salvage everything I deemed important.
Pros: This NAS is small but very powerful. It has lots of great applications and does a great job organizing photos and streaming movies. It has an easy to use interface and account management is a breeze. You also get a free Synology web address that forwards to your device. So if you are someone like...
Cons: While I love new features and appreciate Synology quickly addressing issues, it seems like once a week there is some kind of patch or upgrade. It is a little over kill. I also wish there was more 3rd party apps available for this device. It has a lot of capability but very few 3rd party apps.
Summary: Upgraded to the DS713+ from my previous DS211j... for its transcoding capabilities, primarily... quite a difference (and no, before you misunderstand, the DS211j does NOT support transcoding .... the 713+ does... transcoding aside, the difference was in features, performance...
Excerpt: The performance of this unit is awesome, and I foud it very useful. I'm only dissapointed with the CloudStation software. It is suppossed to be a "personal cloud" just as DropBox, OneDrive, GoogleDrive or others, but when you install the application it literally eats the entire hard disk space.

Summary: Absolutely the highest quality and easy to manage NAS on the market. I backed up a machine this week at over 150MB/second over Gigabit Ethernet network. The fastest speed of a USB 3.0 speed I've ever seen was 100MB/second, so this is impressive.

Summary: Purchased this with a couple of Seagate 4TB NAS drives and setup as an iSCSI target to a Windows 2008 server for a client with approx. 15 users; works great. Was able to expand the drive capacity of the Windows server for archive files and backups as well as Exchange mailbox databases with good...
