Reviews and Problems with Synology Disk Station DS210j

It's useless, actually worse than useless.
4 January 2013
Summary: This machine has essentially rendered my Mac useless -- the drive continually runs on end, and while it's running it's impossible to retrieve or write any data to it. When I mean constantly, its been spinning for about 6 hours now -- without stopping.
Summary: Bottom line, great feature set, but transfer speeds kill the deal. It's no faster than a USB 2.0 external hard drive. Waste of time and money. Returning. I just don't get the rave that this product is getting here on newegg.
Pros: Feature set, great web management.
Cons: My last review gave this 3 eggs because it requires you to format your hard drives before use which takes hours on end. It also requires custom software to do the initial install, which is also lame. I was going to return it right away, but it was the weekend and I had time to move 700GB+ of data...
Summary: Let me start by saying that I am a computer technician by trade. This should have been a nice web-based photo sharing solution, but it was slow (low RAM, I know) and eventually started kicking out hard drives, and then stopped working altogether. Couldn't get to the admin page.
Summary: Caution if you have a Intel IMac running Snow Leopard 10.6. Software does NOT work. I downloaded the latest version off of the Synology website and it still does NOT work. After looking in Synology discussion groups, it was apparent that there is a big problem with compatibility. Too late.
