Summary: Waiting for native iTunes support which is supposed to be out first quarter. Nice forums and good support. Can do much more to this box with a few mods :)
Pros: Works great, like it is supposed too. Very easy setup and uptime is excellent. Running web, ftp, picture server all from this little box and making them all available on the Internet. Will even run phpBB as well as support for phpMyAdmin.
Cons: Not very well suited for database applications but does run them. HDD gets warm but does not run any warmer than what is in your desktop. Heed to offer a better transfer when upgrading hard drive.
Summary: This was exactly what I wanted: a NAS that works flawlessly with Macs and PCs. The gigabit ethernet gives great performance, so long as you attach it to a gigabit switch. I would recommend this in a heartbeat.
Pros: Fast Uses your own SATA disks Lots of features Excellent Mac and PC compatibility
Summary: Synology web site is great. Besure you start off with the latest firmware/software.
Pros: This is the fastest and easiest way to setup a FTP/Web server. Instructions were right on and in less than half an hour I was up and running. Mounting a 500G HD was nothing and the unit runs quiet and cool. It even has a built in feature that powers the drive down when not in use. I HIGLY RECOMME...
Summary: For the dollars, a fair tradeoff of performace/features vs annoyances. Used SATA Samsung HD400LJ w/8mb cache. Updated to lastest firmware before using for backups from 3 systems and printer server. Software support from Synology looks frequent and good.
Pros: Full feature set, more than most soho nas boxes. Works as advertised with reasonable performance over 100mb net. Setup and install easy. Power management works well. Will work with 1gb net (when I get it). Has external ESATA port and 3xusb ports.
Cons: When disk not in power down, runs hot. Plastic enclosure though nice looking is cheap. Has annoying low frequency "hum", I assume from disk & fan vibration/resonance?
Summary: Overall delighted with my purchase have this running in a spare room hosting pics for family to see storing music for playback on DMA downloading whilst not having to run main PC. Very happy, thanks synology & thanks Newegg for the continued great service
Pros: Great feature set, low power consumption compared to running dedicated boxes. ability to choose own disk size for internal HDD
Cons: little on the noisy side when running, this has lot to do with HDD choice, although the fan is quite annoying & is minuscule.
Summary: Online forum and firmware updates is the best of syno. Thanks guys.
Pros: Synology is a company to rely on as they support their products fully. We have bought several of this item and they all work fine. There are endless good things to say about this unit. So far so good. Not even a single cons. Backup is set it up and forget it. It doesn't really matter to us how lo...
Summary: This is a great product that has great customer support. The synology crew answers email quickly. I wish its backup to USB drive function was faster. It is practically unusable due to its speed. Transfer speeds are great even on 100mbit wire. Wish I could add another eSATA drive.
Pros: Fast transfers, eSATA drive spins down when not used, quiet.
Cons: Slow, slow backup speed, unable to rename share of USB connected drive they are hardcoded to USBSHARE1, USBSHARE2, etc.
Summary: I've owned a Synology ds-101g+, which was discontinued and replaced by the virtually identical ds-106e, for nearly a year now and I can honestly say it's the greatest hardware purchase I've made in my life. It has given me ZERO problems, and done EVERYTHING I wanted it to do and MORE.
Pros: Great customer support and history of frequent firmware updates that have added functionality in addition to the few minor bug fixes. Absolutely reliable, I've had continuous uptime of months without any issues. Download station supports unattended torrent downloads. Powerful processor and RAM ru...
Cons: Currently only supports linux EXT3 filesystem for internal and external drives. (But at the moment, Synology has a firmware upgrade with NTFS support in beta testing.)
Pros: I love buying toys and am usually disappointed. This is no disappointment. It actually does what it's supposed to do and more! Easy setup, works great with little knowledge needed. Truly awesome.
