Great when it works

Steve C., Newegg
16 September 2014
  • Pros: When the device works it works great with no issues
  • Cons: The device continually drops off the net. I have it connected directly to my router but after a few weeks of use it started disappearing off my net. I tried shutting it off and on multiple time and eventually will reconnect again after a couple of days of trying. Right now I leave it off most of ...

Poor network performance and now failure

kevin v., Newegg
12 September 2014
  • Summary: Previously, I had the data on a old PC machine for about 5 years. The machine was running Windows 2000 and nothing was really wrong and worked well on network. But I didn't want to update it and started to worry about age, so decided to move data to this NAS.
  • Pros: Decent price for a NAS. Started out OK.
  • Cons: Has always been a little flakey on the network. Sometimes had to reset it in order to see the drive as a network drive. Then today I could not access at all, and finally it decide to not boot. The docs are poor and do not describe the solid red light condition.

If you like to reboot constantly then this is the NAS for you!

Will M., Amazon
28 August 2014
  • Summary: I bought the KD20 orignally about a year ago because all I wanted was a basic NAS to do some backups and provide a centralized media server. Well, as others have mentioned numerous times, while it performs these functions fine when it's "up", the problem is it's a Houdini..

First bad review for on Newegg

Benito H., Newegg
14 August 2014
  • Summary: This is my first bad review on newegg, I've been buying tech from this store since a long time and never had such a bad experience with a product like this one. I can't return it because is over 30 days, but I'd love to do it.
  • Pros: Good looking & Price, easy to setup.
  • Cons: Everything else, connection issues, never able to connect after a couple of minutes of inactivity. Horrible manual and troubleshooting.

Don't waste your money, buy a Syncology.

Jason, Amazon
13 August 2014
  • Summary: Don't waste your money! If you want a RAID NAS go buy a Syncology. The Shuttle KD20 works great when it works. But I have to give this a 1 star since I have to hard boot it once a week. The interface is VERY simple and easy to use.

Unstable

Basser5150, Amazon
12 June 2014
  • Summary: I have had a Netgear Stora for years. I never had any trouble with it until the network card part of it died. I thought i would update with this Network Attached Storage. I did read the reviews and thought maybe they just had a bad device. I had no trouble installing the two 1 TB drives I had.

You'd be better off using at least a ZyXel or pay for Synology

Eric, Amazon
9 May 2014
  • Summary: So I had a ZyXel and this Shuttle KD20 and I have them running side by side. Software wise, when comparing it to the ZyXel, you will really begin to understand how underperforming the software is.

I don't know if this thing is a piece of junk or defective... but not very pleased at all!

Eric M., Newegg
8 January 2014
  • Summary: If you just need a device to sit as a backup for whenever something goes wrong on your main system, this thing probably will work for you. For any kind of power user who needs remote streaming abilities, and wants to actually do things with their NAS... Useless!
  • Pros: Small, decent build quality. Purchased at what seemed like a great price. Easy to access storage via hot-swap
  • Cons: The software on this thing SUCKS! Even after the firmware update, the lack of options and inability to configure this thing using anything but basic methods is SERIOUS Fail! Purchase this for your grandma perhaps, but if you want options... look elsewhere. Purchased as storage/media device to str...
