Product is excellent, but the dashboard to run it is mind boggling.

Summary: The product works splendidly; however, not with the dashboard that comes with it. I recommend buying a secondary program to utilize the storage. I used NOVABACKUP, and it scheduled and performed beautifully without the need for an IT team. I purchased several of the USM/USB's and the data transfers are working flawlessly through the port in front; and the redundancy and clean back-ups have been confirmed on our home system.
Summary: 12/30/2014: in a nutshell, works awesome. but needs lot of skills to set this up. once if raid group were created, the groups are not accessable in windows, until you check this box NFS (network file share) which does not make much sence because it is one single option for all the raid groups you have. I wish you have one for each. but that is ok for now atleast i was able to get rid of other issues.
A Great product and almos none of the problems related was faced....

Summary: Different from all other ones, I loved the product! I am a IT systems analyst at a great datacenter from Brazil. Of course nothing is perfet....the product have some points you have to deal, as everything. Goods and bads. But it is being just as expected for me. Let's put clearly some statements first: 0. It is a product focused in Power Users and you have to have network and server administrations skills.
Seagate. RAID. Surely my data's safe... Then again maybe NOT...

Summary: Bought this unit to replace an HP MediaCenter Home Server. The Home Server has been running mostly flawlessly for years. Nightly backups of our multiple PC's. RAID array. But it's way past its prime. Also had a NetGear NAS that servers well for many years but was also now functionally obsolete. Searched around for a decent NAS. Had to have RAID - at least mirrorable drives - for redundancy, Had to have the ability to expand if need be.
Summary: !!Warning!! If you are prone to violence or have suicidal tendencies please avoid this product at all costs! I’m not sure exactly how this product even made it to the market. PROS: The Dash board is beautiful and it has a USM slot for backups. Cons: The drive holders do not work as expected and are fully made of 99.5% flimsy plastic. Be prepared to dedicate a full 2 days to fully setup.
Summary: This is actually nearing the end of a year-long project. Bought an earlier NAS400, and subsequently 4 of these units (not through Amazon, through our engineering supplier). Loaded with 4x3TB Seagate drives. I had been asked for a method (a) to securely transport large volumes of data in encrypted format (b) to a customer whose technical savvy is low (c) in a convenient format (d) at minimal cost.
PLEASE save your money and MOST importantly your time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: My only reason for writing this review is to save any potential victims the trouble, time, and money. While, I have enjoyed the superior workmanship of Seagate's drives for over 25 years now, I must say that this box of NO-VALUE-ADDED garbage-they have placed their name on-is going to to do nothing but severely aggravate anyone who wastes their time and money on-attempting to get it to do the most basic things that it advertises.
Summary: Well, this is an update to a previous review. I will state with all seriousness that this drive even with the dives that seagate recommends still fails to impress me. When I am trying to push data to it, it won't go any faster than 7mb per second, when transferring 10 gigs of data I would recommend to walk away but this thing frequently disconnects prompting you to try again, and then you can continue your download.
Summary: Out of three of these that have been online for less than 6 months, 2 have developed problems that require an RMA. The last issue took out three of 4 drives. One was under warrantee, the other two are door stops now. Buy at your own peril. To add insult to injury, they are closed for the holidays. Business critical files on your box? too bad...see you after the party folks.
