Nice and Affordable for PC Users. Not for Mac Heads.

  • Summary: The new Seagate Business Storage 4-Bay NAS is a frills-free, low-cost network-based server that will meet the expectations of an office or home with straightforward storage needs. My problem is that my house is almost all iMacs with only one remaining PC netbook. And as other reviews have noted this thing seems to have been designed for PCs and then "made to work" with Macs.

good product by so-so documentation.

  • Summary: This is an neat little product. If you are an IT professional setup is pretty straight forward and not too bad. If you are looking for documentation though, your gong to be disappointed. The included documentation is mainly help files and not very easy to find/use. Some things that are not addressed are issue like switching out bad drives, or replacing with larger capacity ones.

Almost Ready For Prime Time

S. Faulk, Amazon
11 April 2013
  • Summary: ****Please See UPDATE at Bottom of Review**** The Intro: This review is for the 2 Bay/4TB model and I will open my review by saying it took some work to make this operate properly and it still needs some firmware tweaking to be ready for the average user. I currently have a Ready NAS Duo that has served me well for over 4 years but was looking forward to something faster with more modern features like USB 3.0.

Redundancy

Alex P., Amazon
6 April 2013
  • Summary: The web interface is popular among NAS vendors. But as an admin running noscript it is a pain because the first problem I encounter is needed to enable javascript. For those security conscious javascript is not a good thing to let run in your browser. But I had to enable it to administer this thing. First problem I ran into was with the backup software. Got that installed on one of the Windows laptops. But it would not activate.

Decent NAS, but works best after major tweaking

A Conrad "Ask Conrad", Amazon
2 April 2013
  • Summary: This is a review of the Seagate Business Storage 2-Bay 4TB Network Attached Storage . The short review is that it will work well for most SOHO use (centralized file storage and sharing, file and/or drive backup) on a local area network (LAN). I wanted to use it as a media server for music, pictures, and videos (SD and HD), and out of the box this NAS failed 110%. The write speeds were around 10 MB/s, but the read was around 500 KB/s...

Preliminary EggXpert Review

Robert M., Newegg
24 March 2013
  • Summary: Default login credentials not listed in quick start guide. Had to choose 'Forgot Password?' to find admin/admin.
  • Pros: Installation of NAS & backup software very quick; although nothing takes long with an Intel SSD & i7
  • Cons: Fan running in NAS is louder than my desktop; although my desktop is practically silent.

NAS Review Update

Robert K., Newegg
20 March 2013
  • Summary: I have not encountered dropping file transfers when doing 6gb+ video files, although I am only able to test with 5 concurrent transfers, I do have issues with the media server either not finding media or cutting out after playing just fine for anywhere from 30min to 2hrs, the fan is also noticeably louder than my PC.
  • Pros: -Easy discovery and setup with included software
  • Cons: -Web interface is slow and has issues or times out completely during critical processes (see below)
