Summary: This is a great little hard drive, although its getting dated i would buy another one. One great feature that isnt mentioned: the front USB connection snaps off to reveal standard internal hard drive connections. If you need an internal drive, this works great too...
Summary: I use this hard drive almost everyday. I move data, delete, add, move, delete, transfer, and so on all day long. It has never failed me or lost any data so far! This hard drive went on a deployment with me to Iraq for a year. even with all of the dust and sand, it keeps going and going.
Summary: Many comments point out that this is not a terribly user-friendly product but I think it depends on what you're doing with it. Anyone who knows about jumbo frames, FTP, NFS, AD, or similar concepts should not find any issues with how configuring those options are handled with this product.
Pros: Great appearance; solid design; powerful Web-based management; easy to set up and configure; plenty of options; reliable so far; tons of storage on the LAN for a reasonable price.
Cons: Performance isn't great but I'm using it on a 10/100 switch for the time being so can't complain. For a unit with two USB ports, it doesn't make much sense to not be able to plug an external HDD in and share it on the network (e.g., my Buffalo LinkStation supports this).
Summary: Stop complaining about this product. I've been using Seagate drives since they had the 20MB scsi drives and you had to use debug to low level format your drive. If you have problems, call them for help.
Pros: Great size, easy to set up, DOES require some network knowledge, great backup SW.......Includes the Acronis SW which is used widely in the business world.
Cons: Sometimes its kind of confusing in navigating, but again, if you are using a NAS, then you SHOULD have some basic network knowledge.
Summary: I should have bought the 2-drive version.
Pros: I've been running a 2TB version of this drive for about 2 years, has worked perfectly, no network issues, in fact it works every time unlike my Windows Home Server... I don't use the remote access because I have Home Server, so I can't comment there, but the setup and configuration is very easy. ...
Cons: None. It is very quiet, spins down when not in use, low power and it works.
Summary: This 640gb portable hard drive is great. In this time of expanding file sizes where a 2gb flash drive or a 40gb external is basically useless, everyone must have a big portable drive if you plan on taking HD videos with you! The Seagate 640gb Expansion drive is the answer.
