Summary: I purchased this with great trepidation. There are so many reviews online for QNAP and Synology NAS units that I finally made the choice based upon the number of discs (8) for the best price. To my great relief, the QNAP is a spectacular unit. It is easy to install, and when I had a slight hiccup in backing up to a well-known cloud (Starts with an "A" and has the letter "Z"), their tech support was prompt and helpful.
Summary: This product has performed over a year flawlessly. It has been easy to maintain, and was easy to install. The hot swap feature works as advertised. It is also very easy to spot a failed drive.
TS-869 Buy this before you waste your money on Synology!!!!

Summary: Fairly easy set up if you use the wizard they provide which sets up a RAID 6 array. Transfers on my network have been nice and speedy 60 to 90 MBs. Most important you can if required power down the unit and restart it with confidence that it will power up and work the same cannot be said of the 8 bay Synology (visit their support forums-do not take my word for it) and Synology support is unwilling or unable to make good on the failed boards.
Summary: We own three Qnap servers, and as now they have worked very well. We use them as a centralized storage for video production. They notify you when a disk has a problem, and migrate the information to the others until you can change it. For the price is the best choice.
Excellent NAS Server and easy to get it up and running.

Summary: Pros: Outstanding capabilities for price. I wanted lots of Hard Drive storage and wife is tired of computers taking up physical space. This is a small enclosure which can fit on a shelf if need be. Took about 15 minutes to install eight drives and an additional Ram chip. Set up is very simple, when powered up for the first time the QNAP detects all the drives and asks if and how you want them configured all from the LCD screen.
Summary: Pros: Attractive hardware that performs as fast as stated in the specifications. Simple to set-up basic storage, Finder app works well to discover device on network and administer users and priviledges. Cons: Browser accesible software for mediaserver, twonkyserver, is disgusting. Had to load "Java" to enable copying large files, and it still couldn't do it. Twonkyserver dies in the middle of watching movies. FTP access won't copy large files either.
Summary: Very pleased with this new NAS. Bought it to replace a previous LaCie NAS (5 disk) when the enclosure failed. I expect hard drives to fail (moving parts), but very disappointed with LaCie enclosure failing, but I digress. The new QNAP NAS is 8 bay and I've loaded it with WD 4TB Red drives. I'm very pleased the the performance and the interface for managing it. Pretty much plug-n-play. I've only had it 2 months but would recommend it to others.
