Fast, Easy and Works Great - Slightly Expensive in comparison

Pen Name "Pen", Amazon
11 February 2015
  • Summary: I kept researching on the different NAS / SAN devices that I can use for backups. I was looking at this and a comparable WD NAS that was about half the price of this. I almost went for the WD but the reviews kept me away. This was a good choice.

QNAP Support is horrible

James S., Newegg
23 May 2014
  • Summary: This is my second unit, I have had a 569L for almost 2 years and the issues I have encountered while setting up copy and rsync included finding a bug where complex folder names are not readable (despite permissions) when copied...
  • Pros: Slightly cheaper than competition
  • Cons: Horrible support, to the point that I am ready to replace both my units out of distrust alone.

Good USB powerable switch!

Anonymous, Newegg
25 January 2014
  • Summary: Buy it if you're looking for a good 100mbit switch. There's a gigabit version of this for about twice the cost.
  • Pros: That's right, this 8 port switch can be powered through USB, although you'll need to buy the 3.5mm to USB power cable. The unit almost stays cool to the touch, so when they say it's lower power, it really is! It would be great for a low power conscientious person or organization. No problems so far.
  • Cons: It's not made in the USA.

USB powered!

Anonymous, Newegg
25 January 2014
  • Summary: I say, if you just need an unmanaged 8 port gigabit switch, why not go cheap and low power?
  • Pros: I bought two of the 100-base and one of these gigabits. It looks and operates exactly like the others but this is gigabit. It's really the only 8 port Gigabit switch I know of that's being made right now. It takes half an amp or more, depending on how many devices plugged in (use a blue USB power...
  • Cons: Not made in the USA.

Almost there with Synology

Anonymous, Newegg
7 January 2014
  • Summary: I bought the 6 bay because I wanted to make a RAID 5 array. You always lose a drive's worth of space in such a system and what's common is the 5 bay. Well, mine is one more bay than that. So after formatting in RAID 5, I have around 18.6TB.
  • Pros: Seems to be rock solid so far. Good OS, very close to Synology. Almost as if they source a basic browser OS and customize it for their needs. Of course both are different, and I do own a Synology too. What I love about these is they use a windowed OS right inside your desktop browser. It's quite ...
  • Cons: Expensive, though I got mine for about $630. That's about worth it, although I could put a system together for about that with 8 bays instead of 6, and with all standard components, so I can replace them when the MB dies or if I want to upgrade it. But I'd still have to build it. So until I do so...

HD Station is by far the coolest NAS feature

Bruce, Amazon
26 September 2013
  • Summary: This NAS seriously does everything. I was deciding between this and Drobo, and realized I almost got sucked up by Drobo's marketing crap. The HD station feature ([...]) is what really caught my attention.
