Summary: Stay away from this product, spent hours with the Qnap support (which is very professional and tried to help). The box has a web interface that controls a Linux like OS, the box is based on. The Web interfaces creates users; groups; start/stop services. I had several issues with the box: a) Shared folder permissions were not set correctly, at the same time the web interface was showing all correct setting; b) WebDAV interface was sporadically reporting 404 errors, forget...
Pros: Works great. Very flexible to do many different things.
Cons: Quit reading the disks after about 2 weeks. When trying to reboot, it gets stuck during the reboot process. Pulled all the disks and then it reset itself back to factory defaults. Tried to re-install everything from scratch, but still won't boot with any disks installed.
Summary: Works well, but it claims to be able to run websites but if you have a static ip which you will need to use as a web server forget it. Buy a server, as the firmware has issues that will not let you use a static ip. After 2 weeks e-mailing qnap had to give it up. Great though for home entertainment center(but needs extra ram for films) or backup.
