QNAP NAS Products Hardware/Applications/Reliability Are Best In Class..
2 January 2016
Summary: I dont usually write reviews, but really like this product and felt it deserved follow-up. This is a great product. You get what you pay for (for the most part) in this world. I am more technical than most, and understand why some people mention that. This product is built on solid hardware.
Summary: The QNAP update made the NAS disappear and there is no help from the company. So if you purchase this NAS your only support is the documentation!
Pros: The unit was easy to set up and has very extensive documentation. It is very fast and works very well.
Cons: Very poor support. After an update the Qnap NAS disappeared from the items on my Windows 8.1 Network. While the documentation is extensive it provided little help to fix the problem. I emailed the company and received a response after two days which simply repeated the documentation. That was the...
Summary: I was pumped to buy this, but rational thought got the best of me. Bought an ASRock Mini ITX board, AMD 4.1 Ghz quad core with 8750 built in GPU, 16 Gb RAM, two 3 TB hard drives, PS & case for $675. Through a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on and have a wicked media server & NAS
Pros: This is a great little system for a buy and forget it deal. Great homegrown OS Cool web access feature from your own URL
Summary: The speed is impressive. I actually had to purchase a faster switch (Cisco SG300) because the old switch couldn't handling the amount of bandwidth this unit can dishing out. I recommend this unit for virtualization.
Pros: I'm impressed how this NAS works with VMware. I have 10 VM running on the unit. The iSCSI is easy two config and interacts with vCenter with no issues. I have a full blown VMware hand on lab. I have both NICs which increase the amount of data this guy can handle.
Cons: Non so far. The unit has done more than I expected.
First unit was DOA - but there is more to the story....
J. Dvorak "Picasso PC", Amazon
30 January 2013
Summary: First unit was most likely a return to Amazon or QNAP and accidentally shipped as new. The exterior seals were broken, and the glue placed around the DIMM was missing. Unit would not display HDMI video with the MediaCenter/XBMC app.
Excellent speed performance with solid build quality!

Summary: I bought this unit for home usage, where I can store my infant son's baby pictures as he grows up, as well as our family photos. Our family also store tones of movies and MP3s on this little NAS, where it can be connected to a TV for media streaming over HDMI. No more running out of space for me.
Summary: The VPN services in this NAS were actually substantially faster than a Cisco Small Business router I had purchased for VPN explicitly. The router didn't have enough horsepower for encryption.
Pros: Tons of features that I didn't expect to use. Since I have started using this NAS I have now setup the VPN and FTP servers. Rsync feature is awesome - I have a NAS setup at a remote site and the two stay in sync together so if one fails I always have a file server up and running. NetBak Replicato...
Cons: Very pricey, but so far I have gotten what I paid for. So long as QNAP keeps updating firmware/features and the appliance stays up and running this thing will offset its price tag quickly.
