Summary: Would not purchase this product for reliability as it tends to report hard drives as bad. PLUS it has the possibility of dropping your RAID configuration and losing all your data. Unacceptable in a NAS device.
Pros: Great software, smooth design and workflow.
Cons: Prone to false hard drive failures. Have had 3 Seagate hard drives reported as failed. I replaced those hard drives and re-formatted them. Placed them in other computers and they work fine. Now the Unit has unmounted it's own RAID 10 and data is gone.
Summary: I believe you should always see if you are doing something wrong or missing something in the configuration. So I did and researched the QNAP Forums. That place is full of people complaining of the same issues which I kick myself for rushing on such a purchase.
Pros: None considering Price of the unit and what you actually get.
Cons: This unit is not even worth the recycled metal. There are cheaper solutions that perform a lot better than this. It should be simple, configure and set up NAS but the transfer speeds are way too slow and you have to ask yourself what makes it so slow? Avoid this company because there are better s...
Summary: The Unit design looks rugged and beautiful. The software is also awesome. But the PSU Adapter unit did not last long. The very second day it stopped working. This happened on a saturday. Called the QNap support and nobody picked up the phone. Apparently they dont work on weekends.
So long as the power supplles continue working.....

Summary: This is my third QNap. I have a 409Pro, a 410 and now a 419PII. The software works well, and the performance on the 419PII is very reasonable with 38MB/s writes, 40MBs reads on gigabit with standard sized frames (no jumbo frames) Overall, no complains save for two BIG ones. 1.
Summary: I have purchased my QNAP NAS (419-PII) with brand new hard drives. Ever since it was first installed, I had to rebuild the RAID5 several times, even though all drives were working fine and all internal drive tests (SMART, bad blocks...) always approved all Seagate drives.

Summary: I find the product lacking in its redundancy feature set and customer support. This comes from first hand experience during the failure of a drive in the QNAP TS-879U-RP, 8 drive product, in January 2013. I am writing to update this review in May 2013. My issues are not solved.
