A big disappointment, but it's better than a tape drive.

Summary: I bought this last year when our tape drive died and I decided to make the jump to B2D backups. It does its job, but I'd be happier if I shelled out the extra cash for a more capable unit. There's a ton of services packed in to this (and every QNAP) unit, but this one doesn't have the muscle to do many at once. For instance, I wouldn't even consider this for video storage/delivery. I never intended to, but it has the option.
Summary: I got this to run a NAS to backup a server. I didn't need any fancy features, just for it to be reliable and well built. I put in four 300GB disks I had laying around in a RAID5 configuration just to test it and tried filling it up over the network with rsync+ssh. It was pretty slow going (2.5 days to fill by my estimate) because it was CPU-limited (ssh encryption+RAID parity+web monitoring).
