A multimedia powerhouse......but I think I got a bad one.

Summary: Maybe, I got a bad one. I wanted to love it........no, I do love it, but I had a few problems that had me scratching my head. When I schedule any NAS to shut off and restart, it should do it. Well, this device would shut off, but would not restart. I tested this a few times, but no go. I re-initialized the NAS and created a new power schedule, still, no go. I tried different power settings, nada.
Summary: Had a 4TB Western Digital White Light finally die on me after six years of continuous use. The drives in it were actually fine though, so I ordered this QNAP, dropped the drives in, and voila, all set! I bought this not just for the NAS portion - I also needed a Linux server that I could use.
Flexible, robust, feature packed, affordable and recommended for all needs!

Summary: If you are looking for a network storage solution but you want to keep it simple and not spend $$$$$$. This is the best choice. Everything you could want, more features and apps, flexibility and energy efficient for minimal costs to keep running.
Summary: This unit replaces an old HP 495 Media server that I have used for years. The old HP units are no longer in production and use the original Windows Home Server interface. The old WHS interface was VERY unpredictable and finally just stopped loading as Windows progressed to version 8. I could still access my files on the Network, but not maintain the drives. The Qnap was recommended by an IT professional as a reliable home server.
