"Got one BUT Qnap changes HD compat so I got a BRICK"
6 July 2011
Pros: 1:Quiet 2:4 bay drive 3:DUAL gigabyte network connections (but need a router/switch that supports it...duh...expensive to get one)
Cons: 1:Harddrives listed (Seagate GREEN 2TB drives @$80 each) all of a sudden become UNLISTED. Bought them because they WERE but Qnap changed listing.2T|SEAGATE ST2000DL003 64M 2:Slow to shut down. 3:Slow to appear on network 4:Takes DAYS (seems like, but real
Summary: I bought this for 3 reasons - 1. RAID 1 mirrored backup, 2. Data protection and 3. In hopes of greater transfer rates with 2 Gb NICs versus the TS-109 model. Initializing the mirroring process took hours on 1Tb disks, Data security works as described and transfer was slow...I ended up decoupling the NIC's and using one NIC to get reasonable speeds. Now I realize I needed a switch with port bonding capabilities. Otherwise it works as advertised. Good investment - pricey.
QNAP TS-412 Turbo NAS: Brilliant but not for the basic user
14 July 2012
Summary: The sheer amount of functions that this nas is useful for is mindblowing. This bring said, if your not the brightest spark with computers i wouldn't bother as its not as user friendly as qnap would have you believe. The nas is capable of performing every network task you can think of but many of these functions require attention at least once a week. Ive used my ts412 for over a year now and im very happy with it.
Pros: Does everything pretty much, reliable hardware
