Super Awesome - Feature rich

Eric J., Newegg
30 April 2012
  • Summary: I also have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo that I use at home (this one goes in my dorm). I've never had any problems with either NAS, but I prefer the advanced features and better interface on the QNAP.
  • Pros: Has a wide variety of features useful to everyone from home users to IT pros. It was really easy to setup and is still easy to manage. I use the web based bit torrent client, iSCSI functionality, and Samba server (windows file sharing) the most and they all work GREAT. No complaints really.
  • Cons: I don't think the web server is spectacular, however it's much better than other NASs I've used.

The best NAS server ever!

Anonymous, Newegg

  • Summary: If something happens to it, I will update my review. I bought on 11/25/11 and it has been running strong. Too bad the hard drive market is junk, otherwise, Id of bought more drives. I love the 'wake up on lan' feature! That has to be mandatory in your choice of NAS boxes.
  • Pros: This has got to be one of the best NAS servers available. The best part about it is the web interfaces. I get to manage all of my files, user permissions, printers, websites, and many other add-ons.
  • Cons: Nothing at the moment. It would be helpful to have more video tutorials online that I can watch to learn how to create permissions because at the moment, I am having issues allowing and denying write permissions while allowing read permissions. I think that is more of a windows files permissions ...

  • Summary: I highly recommend this product. They even sent me an email telling me that all there customers were receiving a free upgrade to a two year warranty
  • Pros: Pretty easy to set up. I am using it as a web server as well as a web file server (I now have access to my files anywhere on the planet that has internet) as well as network storage at my house (I have a total of 3tb in the 2 bays). The hardest part was getting my isp to set me up with a static i...

Worth every penny

Andrew M., Newegg
7 October 2011
  • Summary: I used a QNAP 409 or something back in college, and it was rife with stability issues. However, I realized that storing everything on my personal laptop was getting impractical. Despite this unit's price, I feel that performance wise, it's lived up to its name--I installed two SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4...
  • Pros: * Great set of packages included: * MyCloudNAS allows you to setup dynamic DNS server with no effort. * Ipkg's allow you to extend the default program set with user built programs. * Very easy to setup! * The device itself is silent, although your drives will ultimately affect noise. * Very low p...
  • Cons: * Occasional stuttering when streaming from TwonkyMedia to my XBox 360. * With MyCloudNAS, can't add applications to the login page (can only use the original four entries they gave you [secure and non-secure])

great little NAS

Marc S., Newegg
3 October 2011
  • Summary: Much nicer than the cheaper D-Link NAS that I returned after a week, and the Iomega one that crapped out after a month. I'm running 2x 3TB Seagate drives in RAID 0. Its primary purpose is as a file server and media server to feed my Boxee. Saves electricity or system resources on the workstation.
  • Pros: Transfer speed is excellent, up to 75 mb/s with a Cat 6 cable. It's rock solid; no freezing. Lots of options. Easy to set up and upgrade the firmware, with a pretty decent user interface.
  • Cons: Kind of wish that it had room for 4 drives to set up RAID 5. I will probably buy another one to backup the first periodically.

Very nice

  • Summary: I am only using a couple of the many features right now. I run mine in RAID 0 with a USB drive attached for backup. It is very quiet. It is a very small footprint which is nice. The 300MB files transferred over with no problems For the price and for what I use it for it was worth the money and was...
  • Pros: This is my first NAS unit but the install went very well. I upgraded the firmware right away. I dropped in two 2 TB drives. It recognized them right away. I like the Web interface it is easy to use.

  • Summary: Wish it came with hardware encryption.
  • Pros: So far, has worked great out of the box. Installed 2 Samsung HD204UI's and was able to use the special QNAP firmware version to update for latency issues at spinup with this drive.
  • Cons: None so far.

  • Summary: Very quiet, low power, tons of features.
  • Pros: Last week I bought a 219p+ and 2 hd204ui drives. I installed the latest qnap FW, did not update the FW of the drives. I also didnt install the special boot qnap FW. I don't have any problems, works great! Web interface is impressive!

It just works

Bruce F., Newegg
17 June 2011
  • Summary: I haven't availed myself of all the features of the Qnap but it is amazing what it can do. I think it is a very good value.
  • Pros: I needed a small media and file server so I picked the Qnap TS-219P+. I used two Seagate 2TB green drives in a Raid 1 configuration. The Qnap formatted and configured the hard drives in a reasonable amount of time. This box is quiet, cool and it just works. It is a pleasure to have something that...
