Summary: My main goal, admittedly, was to get a NAS with an Operating System that was feature-rich enough that I could log into it directly to do some admin and maintenance tasks. This NAS looks to be running a flavor of Linux and supports ssh. I had no problems logging in, mounting/dismounting external drives via a USB 3.0 external drive dock, copying files from them to the NAS, fixing file ownership and permissions, etc.
Summary: I purchased mine with a pair of 3TB Western Digital HDDs. Installing the drives is a piece of cake. The Qnap automagically sets up a RAID1 volume the first time you fire it up. The instructions are clear. Be aware that the feature that allows you to access your data remotely over the internet doesn't work if you have Time Warner Cable and you use their preconfigured WiFi.
Summary: I have used these type of devices in the past, but the Qnap is one top notch device maybe one of the best ones. It's easy to configure ( only basic settings) and powerful enough to handle everything my family needs. Is fast and reliable. On the negative side, some of the pro settings are difficult to deal with and some routers don't support remote access. I still give this device 5 stars since this is not the device fault.
GREAT device, make sure your drives are compatible!!

Summary: After reading review after review and after flip-flopping between this and a comparable Synology model, i finally took the drive on the TS-219PII-US model. I would have bought on Amazon, but a competitor was offering the exact same unit $50 off... i now see that Amazon has matched the price. Anyway, the unit came with instructions that left a little to be desired. Was sufficient but not necessarily thorough.
Summary: This device is AWESOME! I bought 2 3TB drives for it. Installed them when I got it and it has just worked. Without any issues. I have not used all the features yet but I did get the DYDNS working. Works great. I am very happy so far with this purchase.
Summary: I had about 25 years of music/movies saved external HD's, did my homework on NAS. Was impressed on all QNAP's reviews on the web, decided on this NAS. Greatest decision ever. Was blown away with all the cool stuff in it's software! The multimedia features (fotos, videos, music stations) were very cool. Very easy to use. I Uploaded all mine and my family's music, movies and business files onto the NAS. They can access them from their PC's wherever they are.
